Sports card market is on fire.

I do not know anything about those things but the collectible market is interesting.  You do not want get caught with a bunch when the market declines.  I have a friend that owned a toy store during the beanie baby thing.  He would tell me how people would follow the UPS truck around the city trying to figure out who was getting a devilry.  He said the UPS driver would come in and he would have to lock the store up so he could unpack.  It was like Walmart on toilet paper day.  Then later these people would beg him to buy them back at 1/4 the price they paid.  My aunt was renting an apartment to a guy who just stored his collection there.  He told her his collection was worth more than 100k.  That worked out like you would expect.

What you’re describing is exactly what is happening with basketball cards right now.

I believe some distributors, store employees and their friends are in cahoots here.  This stuff rarely ever sees the shelves.  It’s gone before the general public ever sees it.

Whatever small amount that does get put out is done for cover.

He had enough money and so little interest that he did not bother holding them back.  He just could not unpack them because people would grab them out of his hands so he closed for a half hour.  Then he would eat lunch and call me to tell me about all the crazies lined up outside his door.  It was more of an educational toy/ hobby store.  He was into models, trains., rockets and astronomy.  It was a cool store.  He just carried them to fill the shelves at first.

If you are investing I think vintage is the way to go. Hands down

Yep.  Can't go wrong with vintage long term.  Short term money can be made, but it has risks.  I do some of both.

Also trying to get 2020 bowman on Topps.com but the site keeps crashing.

I am too because I want jasson dominguez as a Yankee fan but I'm probably just going to end up buying Yankees in breaks

Nothing crazy there.. 2020 Gypsies queen baseball has had pretty good retail hits

I didn't recall Topps being talked about in this thread so I thought I'd better take a photo and let the experts let me know.

Agreed.  GQ is doing pretty well now.

2020 Series 1 is the flagship so there’s plenty of that out there right now.  5-6 key rookies people are chasing there.

Opening Day might actually be the best thing to buy there.   It’s a lower end product, but the first Luis Robert RC card is in that series.  It’s technically a short print, so they’re hard to find.  Lots of people are chasing that card right now.

If he lives up to the hype and actually does become the next Trout (longshot), those sealed boxes will skyrocket.   I have a dozen hobby boxes stashed away.    I paid under $30 each over a month ago and I’ve already seen them sell for $40-$45 on ebay.

My tip of the week:

Don’t sleep on the Topps Project 2020 cards.

These things look funky but most have appreciated substantially since their release.

Not for me.  I’m well stocked on both Topps series 1 and Topps Opening Day hobby boxes.

Retail versions of those same products are less desirable.

Thanks for thinking of me though.

Anybody paying attention yet?  This card was released on Topps.com at $19.99 on 3/28/20.  Check out the selling price now.

Anybody listening yet?

68 of the 400 cards have been released so far.

The first card was launched March 25

Each card was originally priced at $17.50.  That’s a total of $1190

Current value of the same 68 cards is over $7K.

What if you were one of those guys who got in early and bought 10 of each card?

$11,900 turned into $70K.

Crypto Schmypto

PM me if you want a tip on what might happen next

As I said before:

No sports, no fantasy sports, no gambling, stimulus money, unemployment money and plenty of free time.   Perfect storm for all cards.

This set is different though.  Lots of collectors hate them.  But there’s a whole other group of followers from the art world who are interested.

Print run on the Ermsy Trout was less than 3000.  There will never be more of that card made.   Currently selling at just under $500.

The print run of the card it’s based on is estimated to be over 30K.  Those are currently selling for upwards of $600-$700 raw.
