NFL looking to change the draft pick order rules

Recommended Posts

Proposing to change the draft order based upon minority hiring practices.

This is not a good road to take for their cause. This approach will cause so much turmoil in the league if they implement as is being outlined.

Quote

To incentivize teams to interview and hire more minority coaches and front offices members, the league is set to propose the following changes, per Trotter's report:

  • Award a fifth-round compensatory pick to any team whose minority assistant leaves to become a coordinator for another team.
  • Award a third-round compensatory pick to any team minority coach or front office member leaves to become a head coach or general manager for another team.
  • Award a fourth-round compensatory pick to any team that hires a person of color as its quarterbacks coach, if it retains that coach beyond one season.
  • Any team that hires a minority head coach would move up six spots from its allocated third-round pick during the draft prior to that coach's second season.
  • Any team that hires a person of color as its senior football executive (i.e. general manager or president of football operations) would move up 10 spots in the third round during the draft prior to that executive's second season.
  • If the aforementioned coach and/or executive remains with the team for a third season, that team would move up five spots in the fourth round during the draft prior to that third season.

I don't know any team that doesn't want to do that in the first place. It's really odd. Tell me a team that would rather have a white head coach and go 7-9 than a minority head coach (or GM) and go 12-4. I kinda don't get it in this age of the NFL.

Why don't they introduce something to say that if a team hires a minority woman head coach they get the #1 pick overall? It just doesn't make sense.

Yes, society is trying to push even further Left.  Equal opportunity wasn't enough, they wanted equal outcome.  Now, when equal outcome gets push back, they're pushing towards forced outcome.

Yeah. At this point, why doesn't the NFL say what numbers they want of each race in what roles. They can make a rule that says they want 3 more minority hires to replace three white guys on each team in the league. Or something like that.

Does anyone believe there was a team in the league in 2019 that chose race over NFL success for that team? If so, who are they?

Agreed.  Since we're talking about forced "equality" of outcome instead of people deserving, how come we can't replace black players with white players?  I mean, 4 out of 32 coaches are black (12.5% which is about that of society), how come only 65% of players are black?  I mean, forced equality of outcome, right?  Why aren't we encouraging teams to draft white players over black players?
