What one band made two better albums than The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon?

Recommended Posts

You have to take all the songs on the albums into the equation.

And it's exactly 2 albums as a total, not 15 albums with a lot of hits....

Possibly the Who. With Quadrophenia and Tommy.  It's very hard to find a group with 1 album as good as DSOTM or The Wall.

You may not like it, but Thriller and Bad by the king of Pop did pretty darn good

Thriller was a masterpiece, Bad I don't really know about.

Off the Wall is tons better than Bad ... and he was still black in '79.

Animals yes.

Also both post RW, Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell, were top to bottom incredible.

Metallica - Mix and match any of the below.

Kill 'Em All

Ride the Lightning

Master of Puppets

And Justice for All

Black Album

The true question should be - Name a band that had 5 better albums than Metallica.

Clearly it depends on your musical tastes.  While I don't dislike Floyd they aren't one of my favorite bands.  Tom Petty's first 5 albums are all amazing.  I can listen to them straight through without ever wanting to skip a song.

I've never seen Tom Petty in a top Albums of all time list but yes, it's subjective. If you think he's in there he is in there. I do believe though the list is composed of artist who did something unique or pushed the known boundary of lyrics and sound. Something about Pink Floyd, Beatles, Radiohead where the sound is like this rollercoaster ride. With a good pair of headphones or a good stereo system you just feel like you are on a real ride.

I do like Tom Petty. I'd probably go with Wildflowers. That one, he upped his game.

Solid discography for sure, but I can't stand The Black Album.

Nirvana arrived at the wrong time.   Hardcore rock fans will find it difficult to rank them high because they came along a decade or so too late.  Younger fans will find them irrelevant because culture moved on from rock to rap.  But Incesticide, Nevermind and En Utero were strong rock albums.

I can't imagine all the amazing rock songs we lost because Kurt Cobain killed himself.

I love 2112 but for larger mass appeal I'd swap it out for Permanent Waves.
