NFL plans to start season with 25% attendance

Recommended Posts

Just got an email from the Jags stating that all season ticket monies will be refunded and a new seat chart will come out in August that is designed to social distance a crowd at 25% capacity.

As the season goes on and they can increase the capacity they will.  Season ticket holders that choose not to attend this year will not be assessed a lapse in seniority.

I imagine this will be sent out from all of the teams in the next few days

If that's the case then price gouging on the resell market is going to be insane.

Ha! Like they were going to have anywhere near a full house to begin with.  But the real problem is those luxury boxes. How are they going to get people to sit in them?

Doubt you see many secondary market tickets as the demand from prior season ticket holders will be very high and they get first dibs

If the SEC goes to a conference only schedule and limited attendance, it will really bad. Only 4 home games and all are conference games? People will go nuts.

What will they do? Tear down the Bear Bryant statue because they can’t go to a  football game?

Are there any rules in place that would prevent a season ticket holder from calling dibs and then reselling for a nice profit?

I think when he said 'nuts' he was referring more to what they would be willing to pay for a ticket rather than some kind of action

Yea, scalping ticket laws/fines.

Yeah, that wouldn't go over well in Bama.

Or the resellers are already season ticket holders for the sole reason of reselling good seats.

How so?  You can post tickets for sporting events and concerts right through Ticketbastard, Seat Geek, etc and name your price.

Yep. I've sold tickets to companies like that. They get a brokers license so the government gets their cut so that makes it ok.

I'm not sure how those services get away with that, I can only tell you that FL has laws/fines for scalping tickets.

If I'm not mistaken tickets offered on sites like those have to within a certain % of what the original costs is.

Cool.  Was going to cancel anyways so now hopefully I can just get a refund for this season and be done with it.

You can charge whatever you want on NFL ticket exchange.  So basically the NFL only cares about scalping if they're not getting their "fair" share.

Perhaps it is different in FL, but I can ensure you that prices I've seen for concerts and games definitely don't appear to be capped.

No worries.  I was just curious if the letter you received made any mention regarding reselling.

I live in Florida too. They get a brokers license. That's all it takes.

No mention of resell in the letter

The health and safety of the entire Jaguars family, including our fans, remains our highest priority. Alongside our stadium partners and national and local healthcare experts, we have and will continue to work diligently to develop new protocols to ensure our team can return to the field with a clear focus on winning and our fans can return to the stadium with peace of mind.

It was our sincere hope to welcome a capacity crowd to TIAA Bank Field this fall and celebrate together with the First Coast community. However, with the health and well-being of everyone in mind, the Jaguars anticipate reducing capacity this season. In compliance with state and local authorities and following CDC social distancing guidelines, TIAA Bank Field will be able to seat approximately 25 percent of its capacity at each Jaguars home game in 2020. Once the season begins, any future increase in capacity will depend on developments on the health and safety front.

As a ticket holder, here is what you need to know regarding tickets in 2020:

· All season tickets will be returned, and funds paid to date will be credited to accounts. Any payments scheduled for July have been canceled. Season ticket members will have the opportunity to apply credited funds towards the purchase of tickets this season or in 2021.

· Full cash refunds will also be made available upon request. _

· The Jaguars are working with Ticketmaster to develop a new seating chart that allows for six feet of distance between unaffiliated parties. In early August, a new season ticket plan for 2020 will be introduced to existing season ticket members first. Access to tickets will be based on a variety of factors including account tenure. Based on demand, some single-game tickets may become available to the general public at a later date.

· Attendance at Jaguars games in 2020 will have no effect on existing season ticket member status. Regardless of your decision to attend Jaguars games in 2020, your account tenure will remain intact. All 2020 seat locations will be protected and offered for renewal in 2021.

The Jaguars and our stadium partners are also evaluating all aspects of our game day experience to ensure it is both safe and enjoyable for our fans. Additional protocols, including parking and entry procedures, are still being developed and will be communicated prior to the start of the season, but will include the following:

· Guests planning to attend games in 2020 will be required to wear face coverings as required by current guidelines.

· TIAA Bank Field will transition to cashless payment for most exchanges including merchandise and food purchases. _

· Additional hand sanitizing stations will be provided throughout the stadium along with increased directional signage to encourage social distancing.

In the coming weeks, you will receive instructions on how to purchase 2020 season tickets under the revised plan. We will continue to provide you with timely updates that allow you to make an informed decision. _

  • Thanks 1

I was at TIAA for the Rolling Stones concert. Nice stadium.

Would have to be way less than that to truly allow for social distancing. Probably more like 10%. Then you’d still have an issue with restrooms concessions gates etc

Bottom line, there cannot be live fan attendance. Not this year. Maybe fall 2021 if we’re lucky.

Oh, bull.  First of all, social distancing would be between parties not individuals.  Most people go to a game with other people and there's no reason those people can't sit next to each other.  Secondly, like restaurants, you require people to wear masks when going to the bathroom or concessions.  I'm not saying live attendance is going to happen.  Heck, there may not be a season.  But this "it can't happen" mantra is BS.

🤣 that they still have this pipe dream that there will be an NFL season. Even if they do actually start a game, by week 3 there will be teams loaded with covid. By mid point teams wont be able to field a team.

Democrats will allow the season to start so they can get in the black national anthem, then they will all demand it be shut down, saying its gonna spread covid & it's too dangerous.

It is silly for NHL and NBA to be planning to start the 2021 season in December of 2020.  They should concentrate on 2021 and stop wasting our time.

Even if a vaccine comes out, 50% of people won't take it. Unless there is a cure, forget about sports

I’m convinced that spreading this outside is barely possible unless you’re huddled together for a long time. The Biden rallies showed it. NY has not had a huge outbreak since they started. And what about CHOP? Haven’t heard of a huge outbreak there either.

Who wouldn't love if the NFL went belly up and nitwits like bowl hair Mark Davis lost every penny and was stuck with a useless billion dollar stadium.  Doesn't deserve a thing
