I still won't care and watch a game this year...

I will still call them the Redskins...

I still won't play fantasy football this year...

Those are a lot of my thoughts too Weepaws. We typically think the same over the years. I think people will sleep on Mostert on the draft, why not Gurley being really good? I think Brady spreads it around, but leans on his great TE's. JuJu was great with Ben, in fact I will be drafting Ben late... waiting on QB. He and Stafford

I post over in the Geek Club where it is much more interesting...

Plus I used to play for many years but I stopped playing in 2016 because it was boring and I no longer had interest...

But thanks for guessing incorrectly...

usually people quit playing because they get tired of losing every year. Never heard of it being boring, I can can understand losing interest. To win you have to invest in some time, I have friends that have stopped because of that.... plus they sucked at it. ha ha

Again you would be 100% incorrect (which you are getting really good at)...  After 25 years of playing, I got bored playing a game that is all luck anyway...

So enjoy...

Poker is has a lot of luck as well...  The only control you have is knowing the percentages of what you have and what you see on the table...  That is just memorization...  If you want to call that skill, then okay...

Ok, some not that bold, but here you go...

Drew Lock and Daniel Jones will finish top 10 QBs.  In tandem C. Sutton and D. Slayton will be Top 10 WRs.

DJ Chark will be a top 6 WR.

CeeDee Lamb will be a 1-2nd rd pick next year.

Jonathan Taylor will be a first rd pick next year.

David Johnson finishes inside the top 8 at RB.

Cooks will be a stud in HOU.

S.  Barkley will finish as the #1 RB (ok, not that bold)

Mixon will continue to not live up to his potential.

Armstead will be the waiver wire gem of 2020

If there was ever a year to wait in QB this is it.  Minshew, Lock and Ben will all finish better than most of the guys going picks 5 through 12.

Would agree, Some people that play poker and ff can’t get away from the fact it takes zero skill to play either.

After 32 years of playing ff, I know I’ve felt bored about playing ff also, and poker, it’s a fun game and I enjoy it, it’s a great game like ff of 100% luck.

Thanks.

He's their only RB, and really decent player on offense. I expect 300 carries if he can stay healthy.

Fournette is a very talented player and is going into a big contract season. Kind of reminds one of Derrick Henry last season.

  • Mayfield doesn't finish the season as the starter, due to play, not injury.
  • Armstead will be get the lions share of carries in Jacksonville by week 10.
  • Ronald Jones rushes for 1400 yards.
  • Dallas finishes behind the Eagles and Giants in the NFC East.
  • Patriots finish the season in 3rd place behind the Bills and the Jets.
  • Ravens don't make the playoffs.

Not a "bold prediction", but just letting you know... Tampa is winning the Super Bowl.

I rest my case.

Posty, if you think that's the only control you have in a poker game, then that's the first reason you suck at it.

Finally something that I can agree with weepaws on, though; it takes zero skill to play poker.

It takes significant skill to win at it, though.  I was playing semi-professionally, back when we could still play live cash poker games in casinos.

And since this is a bold prediction thread, I predict that neither weepaws nor posty will ever sit down at a poker table with Axe Elf.

As a former poker enthusiast (mostly no-limit hold'em,)  I have to agree with the Gnome here. The previous responses on the matter bring to mind the old cliché': If you don't recognize the sucker at the table, that's because its you...

@weepaws and I agree with you on that.  It takes zero skill to play poker.  Welcome to the table.  How much would you like to buy in for?  Yes, I take credit cards...

It takes no skill to play poker; it takes skill to WIN at poker.  If it was all chance, there would be random little old ladies and such winning the World Series of Poker, instead of the same people cashing year after year.

I was very high on Fournette last year because I thought he was such a great value and he really paid off (despite the lack of TD's). A RB with his type of volume in the late 2nd/early 3rd was way too good to pass up. I'm really not sure how to feel about him this year though. Part of me thinks they'll run him into the ground knowing he won't be back anyway and the other part of me thinks he gets phased out with Gruden in town and the Jags wanting to see what they have in Armstead and Minshew.

I would agree, he’s their best player on offense, but he’s not returning, so I think it’s a tricky situation as a ff owner.

But im not disagreeing with you.

What is the skill to win at poker?  Knowing the mathematical odds when you have your two cards and the cards on the table is more of a memorization than a "skill"...

In no-limit Texas Hold 'em, 'the skill' is correctly reading your opponent. Did your opponent make that big bet because he has a strong hand, or are they trying to buy the pot? etc. If you get a big hand or flop a big hand what is the proper bet to make to extract the most winnings in that hand? There are many possibilities in any game that separate the seasoned player from a rank amateur. Is there Luck involved? Of course. It is a luck-based game of skill. Just like Fantasy Football.

Okay, I can accept that as a "skill"...

As for fantasy football, there is no skill, it is all luck...  Doing research is not a skill...

Outworking your opponents is a kind of skill, although not a big one. The skill is using the information properly, knowing which trends to pounce on and which to set aside, etc. I have been in enough leagues over the years to see that more skilled Fantasy players do better than the mediocre ones. In any one week, or even one season the Luck factor can level the playing field. However, over time say a five year period, (the longer the sample size the better), the skill part of the game comes into play. If there is a league where every single owner is approximately the same skill level, than yes, in that instance it is mostly luck.

I’m sorry, but I don’t see any skill involved when guessing what would be the right move, in either poker or ff.

I mean in poker the whole game is trying to read the opposition, I’ve played the game, I played a lot in the 80es and 90es.

And you make your play based on what you think the others will do, after playing the game of poker, at Harris Lake Tahoe for many years, I started to see that it had nothing to do with my skill over my opponents, but me guessing correctly, basically I had faith in my moves , and it was luck that those moves where right, or bad luck that it didn’t work out.

I had no control of my opponents hand, but I might influence their moves based on my moves, and if I was lucky, or they were we had a winner.

It’s the same for ff, no one can guess correctly every week what player will produce big, or even if that ff stud on your team will have a horrible game, no skill in those cases at all, it’s just luck, or bad luck.

I have faith in my moves playing ff that I made the right selections  for my team, if I get lucky they will produce a winning weekend, if not and my opponent gets lucky, then they well enjoy a winning weekend.

I think It’s all luck when participating in either game.

Thanks.

That’s because you aren’t likely that skilled in either discipline, which is why you rely on luck. That can still be fun, but won’t result in winning or ‘cashing’ as much as being skilled.

Bingo...  You can make an educated guess in fantasy sports, but in the end it is still all luck...  As I said, research isn't a skill...

If FF is all luck then a random 12 year old, could join your league and have the same chance of winning as you. Is that really your contention? I’m starting to feel bad for you guys. If I thought I had the same chance of success as spinning a roulette wheel, I wouldn’t play...

Both Fantasy Football and Poker can be both... luck, and skill.  The net result though, is luck.  Why?

  • If you're sitting at a poker table with 3 people and they're 'just playing for fun', but you are a seasoned player, you're going to win more often than not because you're more "skilled".
  • Same for fantasy football.  If you're in a 10-team office league, like I've been for the last 12 years, only 3 of us have won the championship... one guy won 5 times, me-4, another guy 3.  In those 10 years, all 3 of us finished in the top 3 (payouts), each time and on 10 occasions, we were the top 3 finishers.  Because we were more "skilled".
  • Why do I say the net result favors luck?  Because no one evaluates you based on these scenario's.  How many times do you hear someone boast that they won their league 5, 6, 7 years in a row?  Some... but I think we all all know that the level of competition is below average.  When you're playing with people on the same level as you, it's all luck.

In my keeper league that's been running since 1997, every member is still the original and every one has made the championship at at least 3 times and won at least twice.  No one has made the playoffs more than 15 times.   No one has missed the playoffs more than 12 times.  I've been in the Championship the most with 6, and tied with 2 other people who've won 3 times.  We're all equal.  I'm no better than anyone else... I just got lucky a little more often.

As an example... let's say that any one person on this board went up against 11 "experts" from the fantasy industry in 2 different leagues.  In both leagues, you put in the same requisite work needed to compete... but in one league, you win the championship and in another, you finished dead last.  So, are you "skilled" in only the league you won?  No, you got really lucky in one league and really unlucky in the other.

  • Thanks 1

Agreed.

Same with the leagues , the only one I’m still in, started back in 1988, and ironically the first draft took place at a poker table at Harris in South Lake Tahoe , the commissioner was the poker room manager, many of the original owners our still in the league, but the rookie as been on the league for 6 years now, everyone is equally as good as the other owner, it does come down to luck, and that’s it.
