Product replacement plans on big ticket items?

Recommended Posts

I steer clear from them normally,  but if I woulda bought one with my 2 year old fridge, I wouldn't be dishing out another $2k today.  😠😠😠   I did get one on a  big TV a few years ago that saved my a$$.  It was 5 years for like $14 and I felt that was fair since TVs arent lasting nowadays.

5 years...$14...that's a no-brainer.

I don't usually buy the warranty unless I think it could be a "high chance of breakage/failure" item.

Make sure you read the fine print. I got a virus on my smart fridge from looking up porn and they said it wasn’t covered under the plan.

My Rolex broke. I could have got it fixed but why? I make so much money I don't need to know what time it is. Threw it in the trash.

I get the replacement plan depending on the item and who is going to be using it more...

It has saved my family multiple times...

I never ever buy an extended warranty on anything. My thought process is the money I save will be more than the money I dish out replacing something after the manufacturer warranty expires.

ETA I also believe if something is going to go wrong it will in that first year.

I put the money in a high yield savings instead of extended warranties. If something breaks I go buy a new one which is rarely. Much of it can be mitigated by reading reviews and common issues with something like a fridge or laptop.

One thing I have noticed, electronics and appliances, really don't want to buy those around Christmas. They are trying to churn out product so the production quality suffers. TV's and computers especially.

No they’re rarely worth it and many are close to scams. You buy it from some random third party, those guys go bankrupt you’re screwed.
