The Black Vote - turning republican? And what does it mean?

Waste of time

Definitely not.  When a convention dedicates itself to winning a specific segment of the population that the party never wins, its very newsworthy and worth discussion.

10% is devastating. He won with 8%. I think he breaks into the teens. Anything beyond that, nobody in their right mind would believe it with the blackwokedemic going on.

Nope waste of time. It would've been far more beneficial to focus on hispanics.

Trump has completely proven to have incredible political instincts that defy conventional wisdom, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  If Trump tried to sway the black vote at the convention he must have extremely good reason to think he can do it.  While I don't believe it, definitely keeping an eye on it.

Probably has more to do with swinging virtue signaling Whites rather than swaying blacks. Like I said, Trump won't even come close to 10% of the black vote. 100% guaranteed.

He got 8% last time. How is he not getting 8% or more again. He got funding for black colleges, passed that crime bill, improved their employment rates. There are dozens of black influencers online with big platforms that support him. He did not have any of these things and got 8%

What did he do to get less than 10%. BLM, look at them, mostly white punks. Hardly any black people involved in it anymore. The organization is toxic. Most blacks don't support that message of hatred and lawlessness. They want cops in their communities, not less. Several polls on it...meh.

He will get less in 2020 than he did in 2016.

And there are countless videos that say otherwise. 🤣😂

But why will he get less. I laid it out why he won't. Biden did not do himself any favors either with that ain't black comment and blacks don't like Kamala. She dropped out of the race early. They don't like her.

Hard to say.  There is something to "a rising tide" as it pertains to the economy, but maybe its more about the criminal justice reform, increased employment and others....maybe, just maybe, members of the AA community actually see the value in meaningful solutions, not just promises of hand outs....

There sure does need to be criminal justice reform when half of the murders in urban areas go unsolved. Yup, it should definitely be reformed.

It’s true. Why should I care anymore? Liberals are ok with the violence , and they are supposed to be their advocates. Going forward it will be great politically for the right to point to these liberal cities and show the cesspools that they are and ask, Do you want that? So they can go ahead and have their little moment.  At some point blaming the cops will lose its power. Then what?

He's picking up latino/cubanos whatever you want to call them in Fla. They don't like socialism at all. Hurting Democrats. Even second generation hispanics are starting to give Trump a pass. Very hard to gauge but I think that is going to be surprising. He gains blacks but even more latino and hispanics.

Yeah. Let's push socialism to Cubans that fled Cuba.

They might be willing to sacrifice those votes to get more of the Hispanic vote from Mexico.  Remember, when it comes to Democrats its never about the actual people, its about manipulating the most people possible to grab power.

I tend to agree but BOY Trump has amazing political instincts.  If he devotes the entire convention to winning blacks, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he can approach 10% or higher.

Bet me

I was just making a joke, but in a normal election I might have taken you up on it. But with mail in voting, I'm not putting money on numbers that are going to be manipulated. So you could be right and they say he only got 8% or less.

When he panders do you think he gains more "woke" white votes or black votes? There's your answer

He's not worried about the black vote anymore. He's picking up more Latinos and Cubans to make up for them. Nate Silver and his staff did half a podcast on it. Those hispanics hate socialism. Not the fat females so much but the men and cubans. The fat latino women are a lost cause. Just came here illegally to squirt out a chupacabra.

I don’t gamble, and I have enough money that what ever we were to wager wouldn’t matter to me one way or the other, but if he doesn’t get 10%, feel free to quote this and rub it in my face.
And I’ll stick to the 10%.

Here’s a real number that says a lot: Nearly three million new gun owners this year. Would like to hear the spin on that. I don’t think those people are looking to vote for a candidate and his VP who say they are taking them away.

Not calling you out either way. Just playing devil's advocate. How many black celebs and guest speakers came out for him last time. Not that many. He got 8%. He has uncommonly more this run and they all have nice size platforms meaning millions of people. I'm not going to post all those platforms but it's nothing to scoff at I know that much. So, you are saying he gets less with more black celebs with platforms who support them. Ok. We will see how this plays out then. They would all have to say screw these celebs. Not voting for him. I just don't like them at all but follow them because I hate them.  Do you see any logic here or no.

I think you misunderstood my post. I was responding to 90s who does not think Trump will get 10%. Or even 8%.
I think Trump gets more than 10%. Blexit is real.

I feel like Trump will get AT LEAST 10%.  But, I suck at predictions.  I predicted Hillary would win in a landslide.

Yes people don't notice that.  Older blacks almost completely vote democrat.  Younger blacks are almost a swing vote at this point.  If that trend holds up, blacks will be a swing vote in 10-20 years.

538 (or as I call it, Lie Dirty Nate) seems to be finally conceding the point that blacks are leaving the democrat party (at least a little bit)

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-pennsylvania-could-decide-the-2020-election/

This hints at another problem Democrats would like to solve: returning to their former strength among Black voters. (Philadelphia County is 44 percent Black.) According to CAP, Clinton won “only” 89.8 percent of the Black vote in Pennsylvania. That’s obviously very high, but it’s short of the 96.0 percent that Barack Obama received four years earlier — and those margins matter. If Clinton had matched Obama’s share of the Black vote, CAP found, she would have narrowly carried Pennsylvania in 2016 — even with her poor performance among white voters without a bachelor’s degree.4

Apart from winning back non-college-educated white voters or Black voters, some Democrats may see a third way forward in Pennsylvania: running up their margin in the suburbs.
