Official 2020 Election Thread

Recommended Posts

Might as well have one since we are well into September.

I will talk about the presidency (but you can talk about other races for sure in this thread).

Biden currently is favorite.  But there are chances of a tie in the electoral college.  Here is one such tie:

https://www.270towin.com/maps/Nno04

If we get a 269-269 tie, the House picks the President between Trump and Biden.  Even tho the democrats control the chamber (and likely will after the election), that isn't how the voting takes place.  They vote by *state*.  All 50 states get 1 vote, so Trump or Biden need 26 votes to become President.  Currently, 26 state delegations are controlled by republicans, 23 are controlled by democrats, and 1 is tied.  That makes is *likely* but not certain that Trump would be voted President.  These delegations will change after the election.  Also, delegate members may feel pressured to vote for the other person, especially if their home state gave the other person a large victory in that state.

The Senate picks the Vice-President.  But this race is *also* very very close.  Currently, the GOP controls the chamber and would vote for Pence.

Here's where it really gets interesting.  It is possible that the House vote might tie at 25-25.  If that happens, *neither* Trump nor Biden become President.  The Vice-President becomes president instead.  The Senate is GOP controlled and would vote for Mike Pence.  Mike Pence would become Vice-President, but then immediately advance to President Pence.  Pence would have to fill the now-vacant office of Vice-President later.  But the Senate might *also* be a 50-50 split chamber after the 2020 election.  In that scenario, you might have a deadlocked vote for Vice-President.  That means *neither* Pence nor Harris becomes Vice-President.

If the Electoral College deadlocks at 269-269, the House vote deadlocks at 50-50, and the Senate vote deadlocks at 50-50, then *none* of Trump, Biden, Pence nor Harris become President nor Vice-President.  The Presidential Succession Act is invoked instead and we get President Nancy Pelosi because she is Speaker of the House.  Pelosi would then fill the vacant office of Vice-President later.

Another worrying thing for democats is that to win the presidency, you need a *majority* of Electoral Votes.  The democrats suffered quite a few faithless electors in 2016.  5 electors defected from Hillary Clinton.  That means Biden could reach 271-274 Electoral College votes on the map, be congratulated as the winner, and then 5 electors he "won" vote for someone other than Biden, which drops him under 270 and triggers the House and Senate voting process.

Here is such a map:

https://www.270towin.com/maps/wrVbD

Here, Biden sits at 273 EVs.  If 4 electors are faithless to him, he actually fails to win the presidency.

Biden will get crushed. He won't concede, they'll try and steal it with mystery ballots popping up all over the place in the swing states weeks after election night.

Supreme Court ends up deciding, trump win verified and validated. Leftists go nuts and destroy things all over the country. They cry like babies for another 4 years.

Biden is not training to fight him in a debate. Have to train hard, get in there, take unscripted questions daily. And this nonsense of him making excuses of not debating. Gotta stop it. Makes him look weak and scared. He has to debate him. His handlers know the debates are a major factor and a steep incline for him. I don't see him getting over it. They are setting him up for failure just like Hillary. She was not ready.

The Trump campaign is using the wrong tactics, at this point running down your opponent will not change anyone’s mind. He needs to talk about nothing but his accomplishments nothing more.

I believe the states make the final decision if a winner can’t be declared by January 21, 2021. Nancy Pelosi would be President in the interim.

No, yes. The SCOTUS will determine the election when it's contested

Yes if a winner is declared I looked at that wrong.

Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000), was a decision of the United States Supreme Court that settled a recount dispute in Florida's 2000 presidential election. The ruling was issued on December 12, 2000. On December 9, the Court had preliminarily halted the Florida recount that was occurring.

ABC News / Washington Post poll has Arizona +1 Trump.  That's the first lefty poll that put Trump in the lead there in quite a while.   That probably means he is establishing a solid lead in the state.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/az/arizona_trump_vs_biden-6807.html#!

ABC News / WaPo also showed Florida +4 Trump.

My spidey sense says the polling firms need to stop lying and are going to start forecasting all the swing state races super close so they can claim they "got it right" when Trump wins again (after lying their ASS off in the summer).  Just like they do most every time a republican wins.
