Valley 1 Posted September 10, 2020 I'm considering rostering Chris Thompson (who was recently dropped in our ppr eague). Looking at him for depth and possible flex play when needed. I'd drop Mike Williams for him. Do it??

show me the murray 49 Posted September 11, 2020 I think you're picking up Thompson purely for his catching ability. He's not a guy that's going to get a lot of carries IMO. Thompson has a career average of about 8 yards a catch, Williams is double that at around 17. He also has more than double the TDs in a way smaller sample size. If I'm picking between an RB who will get 30-50% of snaps purely as a catcher, or a WR who will stay on the field almost all of the time, I'm taking the WR. Unless you are super, super shallow at RB. weepaws 2,418 Posted September 11, 2020 Depends on ones roster, can you post your WRs and Rbs.
AxeElf 787 Posted September 11, 2020 Both have significantly different situations this year than they have in the past (Thompson with a new team, Williams with a new QB), so it's really hard to say how much their past production will be indicative of future performance, but remember that Chris Thompson was a top-15 PPR RB for a couple of years as a pass-catching specialist in Washington (when he could stay healthy), and now we don't know WHAT Jacksonville is trying to do, but it looks like Thompson could carve out another significant role as their pass-catching specialist out of the backfield. One would hope that Mike Williams would stay around the top 40 WRs or so (WR3-WR4 range), if his chemistry with Tyrod Taylor is anything like what it appears to be on Hard Knocks, but then you never really know--and Williams hasn't exactly been the picture of health either. Thompson probly has more upside, but Williams is probly the safer choice at this point. If you don't NEED either one, then I would probably rather speculate on Thompson; WR3-WR4 types are a dime a dozen on the waiver wire during the season. It's tougher to find a borderline RB1-RB2, which is what a healthy Thompson was in Washington.
