I tried for years to force myself to accept he was funny. Finally gave up. Horrible comedian. Some of his movies were decent.

I get it. I feel that way about Jim Carrey. Turns out he is literally the different version of the same character in every movie he plays in.

Agreed. I feel the same way about Will Ferrell.

Robin Williams' movies were very hit and miss.  Many were exceptional, and quite a few were big busts. Generally his more serious movies were very good. Still one of my favorite stand up comedians

@kilroy69 and @The Elevator Killer mention two other "comedians" who I find completely unfunny...

Robin Williams, Will Farrell, Jim Carrey all have the same shtick in every movie they do, just unfunny...

I thought will Farrell was wonderful on SNL, but he fell into a formula for movies.

Jim Carey was very good in In Living Color and stand up.  Not a huge fan of most of his movies.

I realized that about Jim Carrey way way late. I mean just recently. I was watching Sonic with my kid and it dawned on me suddenly that he recycles characters.

Robin Williams stand-up hasn't stood the test of time.... virtually none do, so it's hard to fault him too much.  It just ain't funny today.

But his movies...... how can you not be impressed by his performances in the Fisher King and Awakenings to name a few.  Particularly Fisher King - think any other A-list actor has the guts to go full frontal nude jumping up and down on camera because the part calls for it? NONE would do that.  He wasn't even in great shape.  Didn't care. Part called for it - he did it. And sold it.  Great actor.

Seize The Day was good. Garp was obvious, trite garbage. It tried way too hard to be edgy. Who didn’t see nearly everything  coming in that movie after the first half hour? Cadillac Man was garbage too.

Watched. Thanks for posting! My brother met him at E3 in Las Vegas years back. He was part of an America's Army (video game) championship team and Robin Williams, being a huge supporter of the troops, even thought it was worth meeting young guys playing an Army-centric video game. They were thrilled and impressed with how classy he was.
