Favorite Jar Sauce - Spermoff

Recommended Posts

We make our own sauce for the most part but if kids making frozen ravioli for lunch we will have jar sauce on hand.
Botticelli is a good jar sauce. It sells in supermarket for $6.98 per jar. This week on sale buy 1 get 2 free. 😎

Rao's.

This.  Their marinara is great, and their roasted garlic sauce is off the chain.

Similar (and similarly priced) is Victoria marinara.

I often dress up either Victoria or Rao's,  making my own pan sauce.

Trader Joe’s makes a good Arrabiata.

I’ve heard they had good sauces. Just never felt like driving all the way to Mt Pleasant just for pasta sauce and when I’m there I don’t think about getting it

I haven't tried it, but America's Test Kitchen ranks Rao's #1.

That's cause it is.  Not even close actually.  Rao's smokes any and all  sauce in a jar.

Costco has 2 32 oz bottles of the marinara for 10.99 near my house in Michigan.   That's a fantastic deal for this stuff.

It goes on sale every few weeks around me, and we stock up.  For us,  retail is usually $7.99, and sale is usually $2-3 off.  Even if you are buying it at regular price, the taste is worth the extra few bucks.  There are just certain things that are worth paying a bit more...this is one of those things.

Sorry, I'm Italian.  I have grandmothers, aunts, and cousins who make homemade sauce.  What is this "jar sauce" you speak of?

Apparently, Italians can't read because the first post says that the poster usually makes his own (as do others here).  But, sometimes, there is a need to go to the jar or, as I said, you can use the jarred stuff to make your own pan sauce.

God how I would love to have dinner there.  Alas, I am not connected so I don't believe it will ever happen.

It's really more the experience than it is the food.  There are equal or better Italian joints in every major city and many small towns.  But the experience is cool.

You got a good recipe for pizza sauce? I currently use one I found on the internet a good decade ago when I was working on the BMT Ward. It’s good but I’m sure there’s better ones out there
