One Hit Wonder

Recommended Posts

Just heard Black Velvet by Allanah Myles.  Thought this song is inching its way toward best One Hit Wonder of all time.  I don't like it or dislike it, but its 31 years old, and I still hear it all the time.

What is the best One Hit Wonder of all time?

"Macarena" by Los del Río

"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor

Survivor actually had a decent amount of hits.  Even to the extent that they had a greatest hits album.  I heard they had something like 4 Top 10 hits and 15 Top 100 hits.

Ok. The single most popular one hit wonder has to be American Pie / Don Mclean.

Best parody song ever comes along with it. The Saga Begins / Weird Al

No Rain - Blind Melon

You know, the bumblebee girl.

I LOVE both of their albums, every song.  so I can never consider them a one hit wonder.

Yea, no kidding.  Hair of the Dog had to be at least a top 20 hit.

So when it comes to considering other "somewhat hits" by the same band, what is the cut off?  No other top 100 hits?  No other top 50...top 20...top 10?

Ahhh...  Back in the day when you'd buy a cassette because you liked the single and then realize everything else on the album is sh1t.

Love this song.  Read today that the lead singer in the band just died.

Yesterday / The Beatles

This.  Whatever happened to those guys?  🤔

I guess the moral is to not name your band after a ridiculous pun.  :dunno:

Jesus Christ could that intro be any longer?  1:16?  That was maddening.

Damn.

Radar Love is great too, but Twilight Zone is incredible.  Amazing a band can make two great songs like that and not much else.

It happens. They play for a few years and have a few songs saved up for that first album and then just have nothing left in the tank. Also if the first hit came just before the Disco takeover in the summer of 77, they were dead anyway.

I must admit, the only other song by them that I know is Burning Heart and that's only because of the Rocky IV movie.
