Taysom Hill, if he ends up being the starting quarterback?

So you're in favor of unfair advantages, so long as they're "legal" according to the tool you're using??

It’s not unfair, because everyone had a chance to get him.  And I’d argue it’s not even really a waiver priority issue, since he wasn’t even named the QB until after waivers processed.  I think he went to the 5th place team in my league.

I mean look at this thread, some people were saying they wouldn’t even start him at TE if he was named QB!

Curious what real life analogies you’d compare to this?

Upon further review, the Joe Webb situation I’ve been referencing was only on Yahoo, not ESPN

Yes, I'm in favor of any "legal" advantage or technicality that helps me win weeks. Using players with dual-designations, in either of the positions that they are designated for by the host site, is not unethical....in fact, it's happened several times over the course of the last few years. It's part of the game of FF that occurs from time to time.

However, I respectfully disagree with your characterization of it being "unfair".  ESPN set the parameters, and Hill was available in most all leagues at some point or another for any owner to take a flier on. Is it an "unfair" advantage when an NFL coach has his QB target a defensive back that appears hobbled on the field? Of course not...it's simple gamesmanship, and you play to win the game.

Were you able to trot Fells out today?

Payday loans are legal but are they ethical?

Joe Webb had been legitimately converted to WR by the Vikes. Hill was always a Saints backup QB. It’s ridiculous he was listed at TE.

Webb had 0 targets in his rookie year of 2010 which I believe is the year in question, and didn't even play at QB until week 13 so they had plenty of time to change it if they thought he was going to be a WR in the preseason.

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/fantasy/news/taysom-hill-tight-end-eligibility-fantasy-football/1pj0fantm9qcn14jqvkcvaakeo#:~:text=On April 29%2C ESPN's Mike,TE-eligible on FanDuel already.

Sporting News explored Hill's alignment data early this year and found that he spent more time lined up in a receiver role than as a quarterback in the 2019 season. That's the obvious reason for why Hill was given a different designation. It happens in other sports frequently, like a former catcher playing mostly first base and losing his catcher eligibility in baseball. It's less common in football, but it's a logical adjustment for Hill.

Clay's tweet from April did have a warning, though, that "We reserve the right to strip TE/Flex and add QB if he takes over as starter during the 2020 season." That hasn't happened yet on ESPN, but maybe if Winston was hurt too, it would.

Everyone was playing by the same rules if he had TE status. Same happened to me last season with Drake and Parker. Both hot garbage but I sat and sat and sat on them. Lost several games with both sandbagging my roster. Those two ended up winning it for me and this is more often than not the case with FF. Being smart but also, taking a high risk high reward option mixed in. Congrats to anyone that won with Hill. It took guts and some luck and you were rewarded.

Straw man. This is not a question of ethics. For example, if I start a defense that is playing against a winless NFL team that has completely quit, fired their coach, has lost their starting RB and top-2 WR's to injury, and is starting their 7th round QB to "get a look at him".....is that unethical? No...it's gamesmanship. Now, on the other hand, If I hacked into my league and illegally changed a players designation...that would be unethical.

When Rodgers has his center snap the ball to catch a 350 lb opposing d-lineman offsides as he tries to his best to run his slow self to the sidelines, is that ethical? Again, wrong question. It's advantageous, plain and simple. In comparison, other league owners were too slow to grab Hill in the weeks leading up to week 11. You play to win the game.

There is a difference between gamesmanship and sportsmanship. Hill was the starting qb.

I don't understand why this is controversial. If a third party like ESPN lists any player at any position, the same variable exists for everyone in your league. Why should the owner who was smart enough to figure it out first be considered unethical?

I picked him up on waivers last Tuesday from the 7/10 ww position. The majority of the league had the opportunity to do the same. I decided with the KNOWN dual position on ESPN he might be a good play if he happened to get a little more work than usual as a QB. Him getting the start at QB was a lucky bonus for likely one single week before ESPN does the right thing and adjust his position based on the current known situation.  I've heard nothing negative from any of the guys in my league because I don't play FF with a bunch of whiny bitches.

You say it in your argument. Before espn does the right thing.

If I am playing with my kids, then yes that would be important to keep sportsmanship at the top.

I think fantasy football is about outsmarting the opponent. Playing within the rules and winning.

You are going to far about putting it in the same category as actual cheating or faking injury etc, sadly it happens all the time in professional and rec sports....

No, it was a great pickup while it lasted.

The consternation here was hilarious. ESPN was forward about it all week last week. They laid out the scenarios for all of it and followed it along exactly as they said. Unless you play in a league with waivers and not FAAB (and shame on you if you do that) everyone had equal chance to get Hill and they didn't.

Don't hate the player...

So I picked Hill up last week and he is currently still sitting in my TE spot. If I make any roster moves I have to move him. But you think if I stand pat I can keep him as TE?

I was wondering about that, but I'd have to think they'd probably kick him out right?

If you play on ESPN, there should be an alert informing you that he does not carry a TE designation this week. They may allow his name to stay there, but you won't get the points come game time.

I did some digging and if I don’t make roster moves I can keep him in there.

4. What if I leave Hill in a starting lineup spot other than QB going forward? Will I still get the points he scores?

• If Hill is left in the TE, Flex or WR/TE slot, users will be unable to make any roster or lineup moves until they remove him from that slot.

• If a user chooses to not remove him from that slot, the user will receive points for Hill's performance. However, if your league deems that to be an unfair advantage, league managers (LMs) have the ability to move Hill out of the starting lineup for any team in their league.

He can still score as many pts as some qb’s if your league gives 6 pts for rushing td’s and 4 for passing, so you could just move him to qb in the lineup if your roster sucks at qb. He will make up for lack of passing ydg with rushing ydg
