Browns @ Chiefs Divisional Round Discussion

Recommended Posts

Chiefs defense is getting exploited underneath.  They needed that corner blitz to get home to stop that first Browns drive.  Bad thing for the Browns is they seem to be getting behind the chains on 1st down.   They ended up converting two 3rd and longs there.  If that becomes a consistent theme, they're in trouble.

Myles Garrett came to play.  Ran down Mecole Hardman 40 yards downfield.

To be fair, Hardman was navigating blocks, but still impressive.

So the Chiefs aren’t going to score a TD against a defense that just gave up 500 yards passing to Big Ben?

He has them scoring two TDs.

(And missing both XPs.)

This will be an interesting game if the Chiefs aren't going to have their usual slow start.

I don’t think he is capable of abstract thinking...

Well so he did.

And the Chiefs converted the second XP anyway.

So I guess we're back to weepaws being an idiot as usual.

Jedrick Wills looks like the guy in Baker's book club that initiated the vote to oust Amy.

Chubb can't catch!

Pretty sure that isn't Baker's first reception since I'm pretty sure he was part of a throw back pass in his career.

I don’t get why Hunt has yet to touch the ball? #revengegame

Cool angle on Mahomes chucking the first TD ball into the front row of the upper deck...

Maybe, but they are a field goal away from a push...

Mahomes is definitely a little gimpy.  That's not good.  You can see it in his throws.

Yep, his accuracy is off.

They need a TD here before the half and they're in good shape

I bet they change that rule this off-season after this.  Just give them the ball at the spot of the fumble.

And the dumbest rule in sports saves the chiefs.

Yup. Also no idea how they missed that helmet to helmet. Well, there goes any competitiveness in this one.

It's hard to tell how gimpy Mahomes is because he already has a weird walk.  I always think he looks a little light in the loafers.

What's so bad about that rule?

It doesn't make sense, and it's based on an antiquated concept.  Every other spot on the field if you fumble forward and the ball goes out of bounds, the offense retains possession.  The penalty of turning the ball over to the other team because it happens to go out at the goal line is too much.

If I recall correctly, the whole rule is based on when they played back in the early 1900's and even if someone threw a forward pass out of the endzone, it was a touchback for the opposing team.

I'm not sure what it saved the Chiefs FROM...  other than winning by 31 instead of by 38?

Every other spot on the field when you get a holding penalty or a sack, the offense retains possession, but if it happens in the end zone, it's points for the other team AND they get the ball back.

In this situation, the ball isn't going out of bounds, it's going out of the end zone.

Each end zone creates a different set of circumstances and criteria for both offenses.

Maybe give the ball back to the offense but on the opponent’s 25 like in college OT?

Holding and intentional grounding penalties are essentially meant to give the defense a tackle for loss or sack.

And, of course, out of bounds is out of bounds even if it's out of bounds in the end zone.  Do we treat it differently for catches or if a receiver runs a route and steps out of the back?

I'd be fine with that too.

It was all sunny in the 1st half and now it's overcast. I wonder if the temp is dropping a lot.

Baker breaks the cardinal rule and throws back across his body.  Mathieu baited him in to that.
