Evangelicals turning on Trump

Recommended Posts

The most critical thing Trump did during the 2016 election was winning the evangelical vote by telling them everything they wanted to hear, from his position on late-term abortions to whom he would pick for the U.S. Supreme Court.

Over the next four years, evangelicals continued to serve as his most loyal, hardcore base, even to the point of extremes, such as Qanon, which believes he is God himself, here to confront satan and pedophile rings. Evangelicals swooned the day Trump gassed protestors so he could walk down to a church and hold up a Bible.

But now, in the aftermath of the Capitol attack, evangelicals are seeing him for who he really is and have come to the ugly realization that they sold out their beliefs, and a day of reckoning is here.

Quote

You write that "many evangelicals are seeing Donald Trump for who he is." Do you really think that's true? There have been so many other things that Trump has said and done over the past four to five years that betray Christian values and their support didn't waver. You think this time it's different?

"I think it's a fair question, and I've been one for years who was saying we need to see more clearly who Donald Trump is and has often not been listened to. But I would say that for many people, the storming of the Capitol, the desecration of our halls of democracy, has shocked and stunned a lot of people and how President Trump has engaged in riling up crowds to accomplish these things. Yeah, I do think so. I think there are some significant and important conversations that we need to have inside of evangelicalism asking the question: What happened? Why were so many people drawn to somebody who was obviously so not connected to what evangelicals believe by his life or his practices or more." - Ed Stetzer, head of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College

This, as much or more as anything else, is why Trump will never again be president. Even his most loyal, hardcore supporters feel like they've been suckered.

Wow, there's a lot of stupid in there.

I've been saying all along that Trump is a false prophet whose real gods are money and power. I've read extensively about how he scored the evangelical vote in the first place.

Now, he's done forever without that vote.

I'd say the head of the Billy Graham Center has some credibility.

Of course you've been saying that "Trump is a false prophet", the thing is, the only people that thought he was a prophet were liberals.  Evangelical's who vote Democrat are people who are political first and spiritual second.  Republican's won't get that portion of the vote.  That portion is small and a lot smaller than what the Liberal media makes it out to be.

Also, it's a liberal arts college.  You know where you find most of your liberal arts students?  In the Democrat party.

What percentage of the Biden's voters do you think actually really like him?  Like him to the level that some Trump supporters like Trump.

5%

Actually, that's not true.  It's probably like 25%.  Minorities don't like Biden at all and neither do the socialists.  Those 2 groups make up about 60% of the people who voted for Biden.  Of the other 40%, you have the feminists who hate men (so, knock off another 5%), then you have another 10% who are "pretend" conservatives who hate Trump.  The rest are probably regular people who just vote Democrat because they always have.

QAnon is the secret agent who reports to Trumpers about Orange Jesus’s battle with the Deep State and pizza dungeon pedo Satanists. It’s basically Trump fan fiction for the types of MAGAtarded weirdos who stormed the Capitol. 12th Man and Drobeski fell for it hard.

Evangelicals.....you mean those who disguise themselves in the robes of God and support killing babies? Yeah, they're a great bunch of hypocrites to add to the Democrat's sideline.

The short answer here is the evangelicals/ fundies , whatever you want to call them showed what they really are my embracing Trump. Trump is the very antithesis of Christianity. But the police were more than happy to overlook only his past bad behavior and amorality for one single issue: abortion.

They have become a single issue political organization. No different than the NRA.

He’s also reportedly refusing to pay Giuliani for his services. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I know, it doesn’t belong in this thread, but it doesn’t really need a new one so I’ll just leave this here.

Ok, so about 1% of the Republican party then.  Eh, that's fine.  Everyone has a black sheep.  Those are ours I guess.

If you knew what it was and how it thinks, you wouldn't make ignorant statements such as "the only people that thought he was a prophet were liberals."

Evangelicals were the bedrock of his support, and they feel they have been duped. They overwhelmingly voted for Trump in 2020, so your statement that "evangelicals who vote Democrat are people who are political first and spiritual second" is a cornucopia of ignorance as well. They'll vote Republican in 2024, and it won't be for Trump, because even if he runs, he'll never get past the primaries and make it to November. The evangelicals will vote for someone else.

To say "that portion is small and a lot smaller than what the liberal media makes it out to be" again is a potpourri of ignorance. Some 62 percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. The Southern Baptist Convention alone has more than 16 million members.

Lastly, to dismiss this report because it's a guy from a liberal-arts college is the Mt. Everest of ignorance. Wheaton is one of the nation's top liberal-arts Christian universities, and the department is named after the greatest evangelist of our time. Theology is a liberal-arts degree. Just because it has the word "liberal" in it doesn't make it a political affiliation.

You really should broaden what you read up on so you don't look like such a fool when tossing out your uneducated platitudes.

I didn't know Drobeski was a Qanon believer. Was he anti-vax and flat earther as well?

Yeah they'll go vote for these baby killers.

Joe Biden (Democratic presidential hopeful): "I'd like to take Trump behind a barn to beat him."

Corey Booker (Democratic presidential hopeful): "I dream of punching Trump in the face."

Corey Booker (Democratic presidential hopeful): "go to the Hill today. Please, get up in the face of some congresspeople,”

Maxine Waters (Sitting Democratic congresswoman) "Harass Trump's staff and supporters in public and refuse to serve them."

Nancy Pelosi: “I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be when people realize that this is a policy that they defend,” Pelosi said during a press conference. “It’s a horrible thing, and I don’t see any prospect for legislation here.”

Etc... etc.... etc... etc...

For most Christians that I know, Trump did not represent Christianity. His popularity rested in the fact that he stood in the gap and took all the bullets that conservative evangelicals would typically take. He did the same for Conservatives. For rural Americans.  I don't appreciate or admire Donald Trump the man. I very simply and honestly appreciate that he stood up for four years and took the gunfire from all sides. As a rural, conservative, Christian male, Biden's election means I'm back in the line of fire again. That's why many Americans can dislike Trump and still appreciate what he did in office simultaneously.

Very well said.  For those of us middle class, non-government worker, white, Christians, we take all this heat all the time from the left, and then they vote in an 80 year old white "Christian", who wouldn't take any hits for the rest of us.  In fact, he's back to laying out the plan for our continued annihilation.  The Lord uses all of us as his tools, and He used the heck out of Trump for His purpose.  That is not lost on any true Christian that I know.

What are all these hits of which you speak?

Where I live, one of the first questions that comes up when meeting someone for the first time is, "Where is your church home?"
