Those whacky Chinese- uncontrolled rocket 🚀

Recommended Posts

Got to love those whacky Chinese. This time it’s a rocket, circling the earth, out of control and estimated to come back down to earth in the next week or so. It may, or may not come down in an inhabited area. Wouldn’t be the first time apparently.

Wouldn’t that be an absurd way to go? Blasted by a third-rate rocket piece randomly falling on your house/car/office/head 🤯

If you think this is bad, in 1978, the Soviets crashed a satellite into Canada.  The thing is, it was NUCLEAR.  It wound up scattering enriched uranium across 124,000 kilometers around the Great Slave Lake.  It was the worst environmental space disaster in history. To this day were really not sure the extent of the cleanup and how much radioactive waste is out there.  And no-one cares.

I never heard of this. I suppose that I was too young at the time to care and it never came up since. Interesting.

Regarding Great Slave Lake:

On January 24, 1978, a Soviet Radar Ocean Reconnaissance Satellite, named Kosmos 954, built with an onboard nuclear reactor fell from orbit and disintegrated. Pieces of the nuclear core fell in the vicinity of Great Slave Lake. Almost all of the nuclear debris was recovered by a joint Canadian Armed Forces and United States Armed Forces military operation called Operation Morning Light.
