1) Because it wasn't an 'insurrection", it was a few dozen knuckleheads who got caught up in the moment trespassing. Just because the MSM talks about it nonstop as an 'insurrection' like it was a big deal. It wasn't. Looked more like a mostly peaceful protest and the major violence was an unarmed protester getting shot by a security officer.

2) There's already a few hundred zillion investigations to round up and put those dozens of knucklehead trespassers into sixteen year prison sentences.

3) The only purpose of the "investigation" is to serve a big witch hunt and keep it in the news for retarded leftists to write about and masturbate over.

4) Is the point of the investigation to identify/punish the officer who shot the unarmed little 110 pound lady protesting? No, of course not.

I guess I do not get what the problem is.  I admit I have paid little attention to it but it seems pretty simple to me.  If you loot Walmart or you break into the Capital, an Ice Warehouse or any other building you should be arrested and charged with whatever crimes you committed.  Comparing either to the Civil war is just stupid and grandstanding.  Saying they were invited in because the doors were not locked is also stupid.  Charge people for what you can prove they did beyond a reasonable doubt.  Inciting a riot is pretty hard to prove and harder if you do not have some pretty clear-cut orders to do so.  I have not seen where anyone forced anyone into looting Walmart or breaking into the Capital.  Just lock them all up for what they did but make sure you do not go after one group and not the other.

Firstly, calling it an insurrection or rebellion makes it sound both more significant and more noble than it was.

It was a bunch of morons doing stupid things, by and large.

Now that said, by all means... comb through the evidence and charge people. please do.

But if you're gonna do that, and not going to do the same for the various riots and arsons and autonomous zones (actual insurrection) hat raged all year with the open support of the media and most of the government, then you are a hypocrite who is fine with political violence when it suits you.

As for the “icon of our democracy” stuff, give me a break. Our domacracy isn't one and hasn't been for decades at the very least, if it ever was. The United States of America is a plutoctatic/kleptocratic oligarchy.

Yes, we have a bad ass military, capable of destroying the next three on earth put together. We all know that the military is one of the most bloated and corrupt institutions in human history, possibly only falling to the catholic church, but we do have it.

Let's also forget the fact that mostly, our military is used for bad, or at the very least misguided, ends that make no focking sense and achieve nothing.

Beyond that, what do we focking have?

No Healthcare system at all really. Is a national disgrace.

Obviously education varies by locale, but by every metric, ours is pretty sh!tty...

So... why do we keep doing this? I'm trying to thing of a downside to just liquidating damn near the entire focking government, from top to bottom, and I can't come up with a good reason.

You basically have two parties.

The Republicans pretty openly don't give a fock about anything but their corporate masters, with occasional lip service to the gun and Jesus lobbies for votes.

The liberals claim that our society that spends 6.5 trillion a year is fundamentally broken and unjust (please ignore the fact that these very same people are the ones who gave been running that same system) but if you let them spend 10 or 12 million imaginary dollars handing out freebies to every jack ass that takes a notion to wander across the border, it will all be fine. 

I honestly can't decide which side failed more. The American people, or the American government. You can certainly make the strong argument that our ignorant, fat, lazy, entitled, drug addicted, can't figure out how to stop focking breeding population deserves exactly this government.
