I kind of wish that they did something similar to this today instead of the derby they have now, but these guys did it then for small prize money which would be nothing for today's salaries...

The only chance would be AA players.

Agreed, thanks.

I forgot all about these. I used to watch them after school. Back when I used to love the sport. Great memories.

These guys suck. They don't even adjust their batting gloves between pitches.

Ironically enough, the speed of these pitchers was the same Babe Ruth faced in real games

Should make you appreciate the power these guys had back then.  Velocity In has a direct impact on Velocity Out.

Why do you have to dumb down a good thread with this nonsense?

Of course pitchers didn't throw as hard back then.  Hitters also didn't swing as hard, run as fast, take roids, or hit the weight rooms like they do now.

My dad got me watching them on ESPN in the 90's and Pretty cool. My dad was a huge Mantle fan before he left this Sh!tty world. He did leave me with a $400 autograph pic or more of Mick.

how hungover was Mantle?

to quote the Mick himself (about his drinking): "if i knew i was gonna live this long i woulda taken better care of myself"

his father and brother both passed in their 30s, iirc ... so #7 always lived like he was on borrowed time - arguably the greatest pure talent to ever play the game ... but his knees and the booze took too much of a toll.
