Russia had been making overtures to South African Boers as of a few years ago. Likely they still are. Russia has lots of land, a declining population, and is undergoing a Christian renaissance. Meanwhile, the Boers still deal with apartheid era stigma in much of the West. So it makes some sense to look there.

Let's think about it....people who live off of the land in harmony with plants and animals and all are happy and healthy. That's somehow a disgrace. You'd rather fight traffic to go to a job and work for someone else for 8-10 hours a day, spend a few rushed tired moments with your wife and kids than have sex with her on the ground in the warm sun or under the comfort of your hut? 

Ironically, the symbols of success are to vacation in a land where mud huts are abundant.

You left out the part where the "intruders" cultivated the land and developed highly productive farms that fed the country. And the part where when the indigenous people slaughtered entire families and took back "their" land that they drove those thriving farms into the ground because they suck at farming. 

So, once highly productive farms were decimated and now no longer produce food for anybody.

Putin has some positive traits like being a proponent of traditional moral values and being outside the corporatist globalist cabal. But he’s not a proponent of freedom nor democracy and is a crony insider capitalist who orders his opposition killed. This is not the Russian guy you want to warm up towards as Boris Yeltsin was.

He’s doing his own thing and if you want to know what he thinks about free elections ask Georgians (not in the state north of Florida, the country nearby Russia that he invaded with the same name).
