If you punted RB 2 to the mid rounds, which duo do you like best ?

Recommended Posts

Having a stud RB in the 1st, then waiting for the 2nd one in the 5th or 6th.

I am thinking about targeting back to back rounds on either Denver"s 2 RB's or SF RB's. Maybe take ETN then grab Robbinson like in round 8ish. Which ones of these groups do you like ? Once the starter is established, I could dump the other guy after a few games.

This is gonna be different for me. I was thinking, RB then load up on 3 strait WR's then address the #2. Might squeeze in a TE the 3 spots before RB. Thoughts ? Its a ppr flex with 3 WR's

I’ve thought about this myself, incase I end up going wr heavy. The only one I’ll grab both is SF. I think both will be usable and the 1a will likely be a serviceable RB2.  I like etienne the most as a stand alone value, but if I go this route, I’m likely grabbing a lot of rbs in these rounds, one should hit. Etienne, Edmonds, Harris, Mostert, Sermon, Carter, Dillon etc.  if I’m set at wr I can grab upside rbs at will.

The Sermon/Mostert duo appeals to me in best ball leagues, but you are hard pressed to execute it these days unless you have back-to-back picks (or almost) at the 7/8 or 8/9 turns.

Assuming Darrell Henderson is gone, I would go with a single RB2 like Mike Davis or Damien Harris (especially in a managed league) and not have to worry about the headaches of a committee--and also have another pick available for a prime WR4 or a TE like Higbee.

I agree, RB, 3 WR's, then  4 RB's strait then maybe 2 late QB's and a TE late. A Youtuber Al... forgot his last name calls these split guys 40%ers.

I just heard McVay say he loves Xavier Jones, and he will be a big part of the offense... its gonna be a full blown RBBC there.

Harris is in a RBBC too and doesnt catch passes, plus if Cam is the QB... he will call his number at the goal line.

If I want to get involved in a committee... I would rather be on the SF side, even Den. Besides, on those two teams... there is a good chance the explosive rookies run away with the job in short order. Then I could dump the vet.  I do like the stand alone value of ETN, say in the 5th if I can get him. At least he will have a weekly ppr value.

Not worried about a #4 WR after I have 3 #1 WR's on my team starting, or a Hiigbee.

My goal is to hit on a # 2 RB.

But as always, thanks for your input

We have our draft Sunday night... I am gonna record all the preseason games. See if I can learn anything. Davis could be good, doesnt have much behind him

Well yeah, I'm not just throwing these names out randomly, you know.  This is certified Axe Elf "Win Your League" strategy here.

I didn't know when the "mid rounds" begin for you, but on some sites (Yahoo anyway) you can still get Mike Davis in the 6th round fairly regularly.  He would be the preferred pick, since he's projected to finish as the RB15-RB20, and as such, would be a perfectly respectable RB2 for your team.

I know Harris doesn't catch many passes, but then neither does Derrick Henry, and he's the #1 overall fantasy RB in 2021.

Let me axe you, do you remember the last time that Bill Belichick and the Patriots had a 1,000 yard rusher?  Do you remember who it was?  The year was 2016, and the RB was LeGarrette Blount.  He caught 7 passes for 38 yards, but he rushed for 1,161 yards and 18 TDs, finishing as the RB9 in PPR scoring.  Well, Harris is another "blount weapon,"  and their normally team-oriented head coach has singled out Harris for his offseason work and progress.  I don't expect him to be top 10, but I do expect him to be a low-end RB2 with fairly consistent, if not spectacular fantasy scores.

Mostert/Sermon or Jones/Fournette will drive you crazy trying to figure out which one to start each week--and half the time you'll guess wrong.  Not to mention, you've used TWO mid-round draft picks to essentially draft ONE RB.

Xavier Jones will be a "big part of the offense" in that it will be important to keep Henderson fresh and healthy for the important downs.  He may only get 15 touches per week, but the offense looks to be potent enough to turn a handful of those touches into regular scoring opportunities.  In the first preseason game, anyway, Jones didn't show anything to suggest that he was ready to leapfrog a guy he's been behind on the depth chart from jump.  Henderson's their feature back, no question about it.  His upside is the same RB15-RB20 range as Mike Davis, though I would consider it significantly more risky.  When he plays, though, Henderson won't put you too far behind at RB2, at a minimum.  But if you don't get Henderson by the end of Round 4, you're probly not going to get him--so he really doesn't qualify as a "mid-rounder."

Another guy I would target a couple of rounds later would be James Conner.  He's already the goalline back for a potent offense at a minimum, and it shouldn't take long for them to figure out that Edmonds (like Andre Ellington before him) isn't built to be a lead RB, and Conner becomes the featured back as well.  He's not an unknown commodity to the coaching staff, as he is reunited in Arizona with the RB Coach he had in Pittsburgh the year he posted over 1,450 yards and 13 TDs.  So he's got a lot of upside for an 8th-9th round pick.

Mmmm I think that’s a tough way  to find a rb2.

But if that’s really want you think it will work. And that’s whats important, how about Jones/ Dillon.

Well Jones is a 1st rounder of course. My keeper is Cook, gonna cuff him with Mattison around round 10.

I see your point Axe, what I was thinking is maybe Javonte Williams or Sermon shows they need to be on the field 70% of the time, after just a few games ? Its swinging for the fences, but they would be way better than the other guys you speak of... if that happens.  I understand Harris, I had him on my team last year down the stretch. Dude was amazing down to the green zone then Cam punches it in. Cam had like 11 TD's and Harris had like 3.  They just picked up Jonu Smith and Henry, they are gonna get theirs too... just sayin. There is no upside with Harris. Williams and Sermon could be home runs. You make valid points, and you may be right. Maybe having a roster like Cook, and 3 stud WR's, I should go with a steady safe low end RB 2. Safe is not my style though.

I don't know that Williams or Sermon would be better than Davis or Harris in a managed league even in the best case scenarios--almost certainly not Davis.  And if your best-case scenario doesn't happen, then you wasted the pick.  We're not talking about an end-of-the-draft flyer here; if your dart throw doesn't pay off, it's going to hurt.  You're much better off taking the sure-fire solid RB2.

It's ok if Harris doesn't get all 18 of Blount's TDs.  If Cam wants to vulture a handful, I'm ok with it.  There are some who say Cam won't be starting very long, but who knows.  The one thing I DO know is that Harris is about to take a significant step forward this season, and he's probably going to be outscoring a lot of the Dobbins's and Montgomery's and CEH's and Gaskins's and other committee RBs of the world.

You do realize they are both currently injured, right?

Well, probly not RB1 upside, no, but his upside is having very little downside--unlike the much riskier plays you're toying with.

This is a vital piece of information.  You're not actually punting your RB2.  Your RB2 is the guy you take in the first round.  You're waiting until the 5th (or so), to take your RB3.  Not exactly the same thing.

He doesn't have Jones, he was just pointing out that to get Jones and Dillon, he'd have to use a 1st round pick on Jones.  He's looking for RB/RB pairs like Sermon and Mostert or Fournette and Jones that can both be had in the mid-rounds, and hopes to hit on one of them as his RB2 behind Cook.

I'd role with Mike Davis or Damien over the SF guys.....speaking of, what is Jeff Wilson up to these days?  I see he is still on the roster.

Javonte Williams I'm pretty high on though, want him on at least one of my teams.

I would count on J Wilson missing the first half of the season.

I have to agree with Axe on pulling the trigger on Davis for sure and then Damien Harris. While I'm a huge 49er fan and feel that Sermon's gonna end up being at least the 1a with Mostert behind it'll drive you crazy figuring out which to play on any given week. I.do lime the Gordon/Williams combo as I think Williams will assert himself to be the better back early on but they're gonna get as much use outta Gordon as well. If you're gonna take a rb combo the the Denver rbs are the one you want. I still wouldn't hesitate to take Davis though. He'll get the bulk of.touches as there's no one behind him to really threaten his workload. I think Belichick wants Harris to be the guy and should give him every chance to be that but there's several other backs he'll have to contend with.

I feel like a Harris and Davis can be paired nicely for a strong RB2 on match ups.

good stuff, this thread was about me using the Hero RB method. ... getting the second one in the 5th, 6th round. I went RB, WR... maybe I should just grab a RB at 3.8 instead of going WR, WR for the second and 3rd. I should get one of these guys at 3.8... Carson, Montgomery, maybe Swift. Anything less than that, I will go WR... then grab the best RB on the board at 4.4. You all made some good points. To me its a matter if I want to go safe for a #2, or take a handful of high upside guys later... and hope that one hits. Its hard to predict what the board will give you. I just want to be prepared either way.
