Over charging and out of the norm harsh sentences are most certainly a civil rights issue. It’s the essence of it.

That is why they have these trials in DC.  No chance of even having a single aperson with even the slightest empathy for him.  It is like a jury in the deep south in the 1950's with a black man accused of raping a white women.  He had no chance.

Nobody should have any sympathy for these traitors. The sentences should have been longer. Also wanted to point out: the ACTUAL reason the trials were held in DC? Because that’s where these traitors committed their crimes. Duh.

I wouldn’t compare this dude to some civil rights case in the 50’s, that’s a wild take.

I also wouldn’t make him out to be some victim. Personally don’t view him as subhuman, just an absolute moron and insufferable with his election bullshit.

The irony...

The judge could have put him away for longer though. These are some serious things he was found guilty of.

This guy is a world class scumbag

Really???

- a stint as an Army paratrooper cut short by a training accident

- an Ivy League law degree.

- clerkship on the Arizona Supreme Court

He railed against the Patriot Act, which gave the government greater surveillance powers

Criticized the Bush administration’s use of “enemy combatant” status to indefinitely detain prisoners.

He saw this titanic struggle between people like him who wanted individual liberty and the government

What a scumbag....fighting for individual liberty.  That bastard.  Where does he thinks he lives, America?

I dunno. Got to wonder if it was a bunch of Muslims who Warehouse long guns just outside of the capitol and organized and sent all kinds of emails back and forth admitting to their organization and fully admitting to wanting to disrupt the vote so that  their preferred candidate would win.  You break a lot of capitol windows I don't know if they're that stupid, or that air again. You bet here's a thought, don't f*** with america.

I liked how they started it after the event, leaving all the lead up out of it, and focused on the experiences of the people.

It was fantastically well done. I have watched many documentaries on the topic. And also some of the follow ups with current day tourism.

Def best show I watched for awhile around that time.

If you haven’t seen this check it out, similar vein: Command and Control

I had never heard about this and heard about it after watching Chernobyl and was down some wikipedia rabbit hole reading about that.

Yea, he has it bad.  reminds me of Drefus in the Pink Panther.   mention Klusso(Peter Sellers) & he goes off the rails.    DTS is real.  In FBGs, you mention a guy has DTS and you get a time out.  unreal.

Agree, the term is widely misused.

I think a far more tangible line can be drawn between the liberals of today and Mao ; Ref: Rink

Mao killed his fair share with catatrophic ideology, the left seem intent to repeat those mistakes.

You are first assuming that is what Mao wanted, in truth he did not.  He simply felt that he knew more than anyone else, and no opposition to his notions of what was true was permitted.  Therefore where opposition arose it was shut down, and people implemented what he wanted.  Of course we can see clearly now that he was clearly wrong, as did sane people then....but again, opposition was suppressed.

The parallel being that Mao thought he could reinvent humanity, and just decide what it was and what was true.  This is the same nonsense espoused by liberals today.

So, setting aside your strawman, we need to understand that while it was the bad ideas that led to the negative outcomes......those ouctomes were secured when smart and sane people who objected were silenced.

First off Mao was one of the worst mass murderers in history. To attempt to tie him to American politics of any significant stripe is both ridiculous and offensive.

Second liberals don’t want to reinvent anything. Liberals want a capitalist society with a large safety net, and we want everyone treated with human dignity, including gays and trans, and we want America’s long history of racism acknowledged so that we can work to improve it. We’re not communists, or fascists, or anarchists. In general we like things the way they are.

Let's talk about that first point.  You mention that being attributed to Maoism is ridiculous and offensive, I will now ask you to then repudiate the linkage of republicans in facism in the same way. Now, there are parallels between the two.  If Mao had not suppressed dissent and allowed for criticism of his pursuits, things may have gone better.  The main reason those people died was that once it was clear the situation was not workable no one said a word, no one dared to challenge.....and that is liberalism today.....

Liberals do want to reinvent the world.  That is part and parcel, progressivism is the push to change and evolve, and conservatism is to instead retain that which is known to work. Pretending that we can magically change our gender, or that white people are the problem, all of this is just farcical nonsense.

Society has improved and will continue to do so, never achieving "perfection".

But this business of words being violence, and speaking out for what you beleive in is white supremacy or what ever, its a dark place to be......

I am all for safety nets.  I oppose dependancy nests, and liberals have been advocating for life long and even generational nests while calling them safety nets.

Me, nets not nests!

Fascism originated with Mussilini.  He defined fascism as being a left-wing collectivistic ideology in opposition to socialism, liberalism, democracy and individualism.

The definition morphs over time for political reason.  Mainly, the modern leftists like to frame fascism into a rightwing only movement based on white supremacy and nationalism.

There are a lot of different names for different political movements and for the most part they are different in name-only and in reality the end result is of no difference.  You either advance freedom and individual liberties where government powers are strictly limited and controlled by the will of the people or you advance centralized authoritarian power where a dictator or controlling elite class make the decisions.

Unfortunately the US has drifted from the former and more closely resembles the later.   Our individual rights are no longer respected and our rights have been usurped by a massive government bureaucracy which operates above the reach of our elected officials and is corruptly partnered with the mega-multi-national monopolistic corporations.  We no longer are ruled by a Democracy or Constitutiinal Republic.  We certainly are not a theocracy.  It is not Communism.  It is not even a corpacacy.  The best word to describe what we have is fascism which operates under a cloak of fake Democracy.

Our media, our access to information, our ability to speak freely, our privacy, and our system of justice have all been compromised.

10s of millions of Americans believe our institutions tilted the scales in favor of Biden. From the media and tech blackout of the laptop story, to the 51 experts, voting rule changes using lawfare instead of implementing via constitutional norms and processes, countless examples forcible opposition suppression (Amazon and app stores dropping parlor). I could go on.

So since you’re so smart, what are you thoughts on what we should do with these people?
