There are many variations of this statement.    But the version I usually use is "never suggest conspiracy when incompetence will explain".       So many times I see people tying themselves in knots to explain/assign some great conspiracy, or small conspiracy to something.   All sizes really.    I just point out that the easiest explanation for how things got so fuk'd up is that the people involved are morons.   While their results may be evil or awful, the reason they got there is because they were too stupid to understand the path they were/are on.

Best advice I ever got was from Thomas Magnum PI.

 

Couple of Doberman Pinschers named Zeus and Apollo were always trying to Rip him to pieces. Time After Time, Thomas would be furiously trying to pick the locks on The Wine Cellar or his apartment , the Ferrari, or the big house while the dogs were just seconds behind.  Over and over and over again he said this to himself:

 

" Don't worry about the dogs. Work the lock."

 

It's a variation on the idea that there's a lot of shiit that we can't control. So work on the shiit you can. 

There's always going to be stuff you can't control; A shity co-worker, shity boss, cancer, layoffs, you name it. 

Don't worry about the dogs.
