I'll assume the feds will throw the book at them to try and look tough. They will want to make an example of these people (who they don't care about at all anyway) while they continue to cave to china in every way imaginable.

I would assume they have been selling secrets for some time, have already made plenty of money, and were trying to establish a new source of revenue with this connection.  They were starting small with $20k but probably expected bigger payouts later from future dealings.  This was the "free sample".

I have to assume that, since the past history of his prior deals are being redacted, he has been selling secrets to an ally like the UK, France, etc.  They can't divulge that to the press without harming an ally, so they will just omit that and talk about this current deal.  But his steps are too complex for this to be his first rodeo.  If he had been selling secrets to Russia, speculation would be all over the place about THAT.  But they are keeping it hush-hush.

His wife is a humanities teacher at a private school. She’s a liberal and more than likely so is her husband since liberals don’t like to marry someone that doesn’t share their liberal beliefs
