Rusty - question about tyler area

Recommended Posts

We are going to the train in Palestine and need a resort to stay at. Ideally something like a great wolf lodge, or similar.

If there is not that, then are there any casinos up there that have a baby sitting service?

Ideally it will be with 75 miles of Palestine, which Tyler is.

Palestine is about 40 minutes from Tyler. I would look at The Villages.

I didn't dig deep into the overnight, non-member stuff, but I think you can rent a cabin-like/condo thing there.

There is a pretty decent indoor water park there that is open year-round. There is a pool, putt-putt and that sort of thing.

It's closer to Palestine than Tyler. Plus the liquor store is right there, which is important because you can only buy beer and wine in Tylerville.

I'd also look at a vbro or airbnb of Lake Palestine places, so maybe you could get a house/condo on the lake, and it's a big focking beautiful lake ... near the liquor store!

Also, Tyler has a super-cool zoo. It doesn't have super crazy stuff, like edjr's immediate relatives, but it's one of the most close-up zoo experiences. It's small, quaint and gives you close-up looks at animals, particularly edjr distant relatives with Dollar General cheap, plastic things sticking out of their butts.

This is valuable information for you in that he could say hello and feed your mom a banana or something at the Tylerville zoo.

Thanks, I booked a couple nights at that hotel, it was reasonably priced for a 2 bedroom hotel. You can tell it is offseason pricing. That is exactly what i was looking for.

We won't be going to the zoo, we have a membership at the houston zoo and that is always a backup option when we can't think of anything to do on the weekends.

The kids like hiking/state parks if there are any good ones around the area?

Tyler State Park north of the city is one of the state's best. There is an easy walk around the lake as well as miles and miles of hilly hiking trails, which also happen to provide some of the state's best mountain biking for cyclists of all abilities. Mission Tejas State Park to the south is kind of cool, but there is a crazy amount of poison oak and poison ivy lining the trails. Caddo Mounds is in the area as well, but I haven't checked them out.

One of the most memorable experiences was doing the Texas Geocache Experience a few years ago. If you ranked among the top 25 first to find all the state-park geocaches in a region, you got a commemorative medallion, and we came in at like 13th. Each state park has one official geocache, usually an ammo box. You can sign a log book, take a trinket and leave a trinket.

I was leaving CDs of an old band I used to play with, which was about the only way to get people to listen to it.

There used to be an app you could download and get the geocache coordinates, but usually the ranger station can provide that. We sometimes used a GPS on a phone to find them, but phones don't always work out there, so hand-held GPS device is the way to go.

Be sure to check out the waterpark at The Villages. It's a great little indoor park, not quite as big as the indoor park at Great Wolf Lodge, but still a good time.

All of your recommendations were suberb. We are at the villages tonight and the kids had a blast today. The waterpark was not very crowded and the kids had a great time, the resort here is much better than some of the other's i have stayed at near the hill country area. Incredibly activities for the kids, we did too much stuff today to list off.

There will be tons of activities tomorrow as well, before heading into Palestine for the train ride.

The whole resort is setup for boaters/fishers from dallas area during the summer time. Our hotel room has a full size kitchen, living room, and 2 large bedrooms. Everything is clean and it was only 175 a night. That is crazy cheap pricing compared to any of the places i have booked in the last 3 years.

Really appreciate this recommendation
