You think businesses like having no clue what happens with tariffs on their products, that they are at the whim of this guy, they can change depending on his mood, they are now back to this limbo state where who the fock knows what happens.

I’m sure it has nothing do with your undying love for Donald.

I’m talking about your claim that people are losing their shitt.

I guess, but it's not so much the tariffs as the AI implications that have really upset markets the past couple weeks.  There could be some of that in this today, but the markets right now are looking for excuses to sell off due to the AI unease.  When the VIX spiked up it this round that's what triggered it.  The rest is just noise right now but it looks like we are going to have choppy waters until some of the AI info is digested.

There’s also a potential war about to pop off.

From my recollection whenever new tariffs are brought up there is a negative reaction. The common reprieve from that is when there’s settling of the uncertainty.

The original point was the markets don’t like this uncertainty. The President announcing global tariffs of first 10% and then a few hours later 15% is uncertainty and strange behavior.

You can’t say anything remotely negative about the President and his bizarre antics without Trump people losing their shet.

Here’s where you say Trump people are losing their shitt.

War in Iran, the Mexico turmoil, tariffs, all are factors.  The telling factor is how the NASDAQ is leading the down charge daily.  Today was more balanced, but the tech shares have been leading us down lately.  It feels tumultuous to me, I wouldn't be surprised at some sort of correction.  I figure as much as I reweighted some stuff to equities a couple weeks back.  But if it gets 10-15% I'll average down some.   Honestly we would be better off if this were just tariff related.  That would be a day or two and we could be back stabilized.  I think the AI stuff people just are unsure how far those ripples are going to go out.

Well tech had already been down, but agreed we could def see there being more. I disagree if you don’t think the tariff nonsense is a factor.

Personally don’t think the Mexico stuff moves the needle at all.

It absolutely does. Mexico's economy could bottom out in a war with the cartels.

The Trump people losing their shet comment was responding to what leads to pages of political discussion about Gavin Newsom, Kamala, Biden, market returns, etc.

Tariffs cause uncertainly -> and off we go.

They have been killing these dudes every couple years for two decades.

This impacts the stock market but the Prez announcing 10% then 15% new tax globally doesn’t?

Come on fellas.

No one is losing their shitt. It’s just a dumb way to speak.

They're going to pay the tariffs regardless. Tariffs really have little effect in most sectors. That only applies to certain sectors, not all.

Mexico losing its tourism and a possible cartel takeover is much more scary for investors right now.

Ok we got that cleared up. What do you think about global tariffs randomly being placed, then increased in a few hours?

New tariffs that may or may not be legal.

Hundreds of billions in collected funds perhaps needing to be returned.

The cartels aren’t going to go quietly.  It they have never really encountered US special forces. They are in for it if they do.

Why are you so against us getting better trade deals? Are you saying they haven’t been lop sided?

I posted in some other thread how many of these cartel leaders have been killed or arrested in past 20 years. It’s a shitload.

Pretty much boils down to I don’t trust this guy to do it well. I don’t trust his judgement in much of anything outside of self promotion.

How is that wild? The markets always fluctuate, mainly in Tech. No need to panic, in fact you should be a bull.

Mexico has never declared a "real war" on cartels, so we have no idea how this is going to end. These cartels have more money and more resources than the government in certain circumstances. There's a real possibility that the Cartels can overthrow, the Mexican Government. And if so that means we're in a war as well.

Thai doesn’t feel different? Also, 50 cartel members were extradited to the US. Thinking is the leadership saw what happened to Maduro and decided to pick their poison.

I’m not panicking. Relax.

That doesn’t mean I enjoy the wild behavior of this dipshit man baby.

I’m not concerned in the least about the Mexico situation.

Yes not worried. Getting past this tariff uncertainty would be much preferred.

That's because you've been brainwashed. Trump was a successful businessman at a high level, and then successful with jobs and the economy in his first term. (pre-Covid - no leader in the world did well at the start of the Covid pandemic and/or during the Covid pandemic)

I don’t like volatility that’s created by this guy’s bizarre behavior. I know you don’t think it’s impactful, however random taxes being placed based globally is not great.

You have been brainwashed to think the economy was terrible under Biden and amazing under Trump.

Where did I say that?

Fair enough. You don’t think this?

I think inflation got out of control on his watch and he didn't implement anything to curtail it, so I do think that.

Your comment was about Trump and you not trusting him. Let's focus on Trump here. Biden is out of office. I only brought up Trump's past to show he has shown that he can be trusted with decisions and the economy.

There’s no question inflation was terrible. This was however a global issue. When Biden was sworn in Covid cases were still peaking it wasn’t exactly an ideal situation. Inflation It was falling by the time he left as it was everywhere.

He was a mediocre Prez. As is Trump. We can only hope for better and a better Congress.

Both of these assertions are at the very least highly debatable.
