Rams at Buccaneers: Divisional Round Discussion

Recommended Posts

Brady looks just a half step slower than usual. Maybe he’s hearing footsteps…

This game is bizarre.  Rams just continue to shoot themselves in the foot over and over.  Just think if they had 15 yards back from that weddle personal foul on that FG that was somehow short from 47.

The Rams played not to lose in the 4th quarter. Unbelievable

Lol at Colin's worth saying you don't want to give the Rams time.  They can barely run a play.

yeah, feels like an epic meltdown.  maybe the rams D will hold.   they need to now.

TB is just going to QB sneak for the first and then get four downs from the seven.

That timeout was stupid by the Rams.  TB was in shotgun thinking they had the first.

This is a textbook example of how to choke in the fourth quarter.

Rams don't deserve this after puking all over themselves the entire 4th quarter.

If you have single coverage on the league’s leading receiver, maybe you should focus on him and not be looking in the backfield.

Plenty of confusing coaching decisions in this game. But, they made it exciting

The only thing that Fournette's status impacts is how many points the Bucs win by.  I'm thinking the Bucs win 27-24 without Fournette, but 31-20 with Fournette.

honestly, that defensive play call was a mistake.  but in a game you hope the mistakes from both sides offset each other and the Rams made plenty to lead up to this point.

The kicker that won the game for the Rams was drafted by the Bucs, but cut for the Buc's current kicker, who missed a 48 yard FG earlier in the game that would have won the game for the Bucs instead.

Gay missed a 47 yarder that would've tied the hypothetical game winner succop missed.

I'm not sure that any team--and certainly not a Super Bowl winning team--has ever had an easier schedule than the Buccaneers in 2021.  The only other half-way decent team in their division swept the Bucs during the regular season, but couldn't make the playoffs themselves.  The Bucs also lost to Washington, and to the Rams (their divisional playoff opponent) in Week 3 by 10 pts.  Outside of their division, the Bucs played the AFC East and the NFC East, with two other non-playoff teams (Chicago and Indianapolis) thrown in for good measure, which means the only playoff teams the Bucs beat during the regular season were the Eagles (by 6), the Cowboys (by 2), the Patriots (by 2) and the Bills (in OT).  They got the Eagles again in the first round, but it will be interesting to see what they can do against some real teams now.

The Titans, Packers and Bills also kind of benefitted from playing in weak divisions, while the Bengals, 49ers, Rams and Chiefs were challenged by stronger divisions.  We'll see if that makes them better prepared for the playoffs or not.

Can the Rams and Chiefs make it a sweep?

Three out of four now...

If the Chiefs win to complete the sweep, they will be the only "favorite" to uphold the Team From a Better Division theory, after Crappy Division Champions Tennessee and the Bays faceplanted.

Maybe 3 of the Final 4 from the West divisions of both Conferences--clearly the strongest divisions in football this year.

But having missed it, Succop's woulda won it, if he hadn't missed it, which is the only thing that allowed Gay to win it.

enough of the coulda woulda shoulda argument.

thats not what happened.

not picking on you Axe.  its just this is the most recent post.

all that matters is what actually happened.      in the end, deserved or not, the Rams won.

at least it turned out to be entertaining.  I figured lots of people tuned out when it became a 4 score game in the third quarter.

All three games so far this weekend have ended in a walk-off FG.

better than a 30 point blowout.  those games at the end are like watching paint dry.

Wild card weekend, avg margin of victory was 17 points, this weekend 3.

Only eight teams need to make the playoffs, makes for a much better post season.

Even 12 with a couple byes from each conference make both weekends better

And SWEEP!

The AFC West and the NFC West were clearly the best divisions in football this year--and you need to play in a strong division if you want to be ready to succeed in the playoffs!

Did you see what took place this weekend with the final eight teams.

This weekend just proved how a limited of eight playoff teams makes the postseason worthy of paying attention too.

I like the expanded playoffs. Makes the end of the season more competitive. There will be better games in the first round in the future. It’s just the first year.

This was never about making a better product.  Lets be clear about this now.

This was about extra money.

extra playoff games means more TV revenue and more gate revenue.  your pro contracts cover regular season play.  the stipends for playoff games is substantially less so a team making the playoffs stands to make a lot more cash than one that does not.

to that end, we are never going back to the old way.  I guarantee it.  Owners will realize how much more they stand to make and wont wanna let that money go.

Exactly, and it’s what I said on the Eagles Vs Bucs thread. Money.

But eight would be much better.

Not true, it will get worst, worst teams will be making into the playoffs.

honestly so long as sub .500 teams are not regularly making the playoffs I'm ok with it.

when it gets to that point, then the product (and interest in the regular season and the first round of the playoff) will decline in a significant way.

17 points was the avg margin of victory during wild card weekend, the product has already been watered down.

Sometimes. Other times good teams won’t get left out. If you just swapped the Chargers for the Steelers this year it would have been better. Not perfect, but better.

Well, I'm not a whiner like some people here.  Tampa lost to a good team.  That's ok, they lost games before.  It's all good.  I'll be rooting for the Rams because I like Stafford and always though he got a raw deal.  I hope he wins.
