No he wouldn't have. Do you seriously think Biden would be less inclined than Clownzo to get her out of Russia?

why don't you plead guilty to being a pathetic liberal bot and we'll ship you back to fbgs or whatever liberal hellhole forum suits your fancy?

Last month Russia sentenced a US teacher working in Moscow to 14 years for carrying a half oz.

For hash oil, Griner is only facing 10 years.   Hope she serves it in Siberia.

Thank you for the reference.  Looks like he was also charged with “large scale” transportation of drugs.  But he did used to be a diplomat apparently.  Was he detained the entire time leading up to his trial?  I couldn’t tell based on what I read.

i dont see any reason for Russia to accept that deal.  they probably value a show trial of an American far more.

She already had her trial.  She pled guilty.

the trial is still going.  this just came out 5 hours ago.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/7/27/us-basketball-star-brittney-griner-testifies-in-russian-court

US basketball player Brittney Griner has testified in a Russian court that she was not read her rights when she was detained at a Moscow airport in February, as she stands trial for drug charges that could see her face up to 10 years in prison.

During her testimony on Wednesday, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star described making a gruelling 13-hour flight to Moscow from Arizona while recovering from COVID-19. Griner said she still does not know how the cannabis oil ended up in her bag but explained she had a doctor’s recommendation for it and had packed it in haste.

Griner pleaded guilty earlier in the trial but denied she intended to break Russian law.

Griner’s trial started July 1, and Wednesday was her first appearance as a witness. The court outside Moscow held five previous sessions that were short, some lasting only about an hour.

It is unclear how long the trial will last, but a court has authorised Griner’s detention until December 20.

great... A murderous Russian arms dealer for a liberal American druggy. Great deal.

https://www.foxnews.com/world/who-viktor-bout-russias-merchant-death-who-could-be-freed-prisoner-swap-brittney-griner

Who is Viktor Bout, Russia's 'Merchant of Death' who could be freed in prisoner swap for Brittney Griner?

Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer known as the "Merchant of Death" whose weapons sales fueled deadly conflicts around the world, could be sent back to his motherland in exchange for WNBA star Brittney Griner and retired U.S. Marine Paul Whelan.

Russian officials have long pushed for the release of Bout, who is currently serving a 25-year sentence in U.S. prison after being convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to kill Americans, conspiracy to deliver anti-aircraft missiles, and aiding a terrorist organization.

He was nabbed in 2008 in a sting operation at a luxury hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, where he met with Drug Enforcement Administration informants who were posing as officials with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which has been classified by US officials as a narco-terrorist group

Suppose this goes through, or something like it down the road, what do you think her attitude toward the US would be. More supportive, less supportive or unchanged?

So, anytime a Russian arms dealer, terrorist, or spy is nabbed by us all Russia need do is nab a D-list American celebrity on trumped up charges to get a trade to get their guy back.  Not a good precedent.

unchanged.  she would actually have to spend years in a russian prison to begin to appreciate the US.  after 10 years, she'd emerge as a republican.

They really didn't say a lot about the guy.

Biden has his fingerprints on all the bad stuff that is happening to this country. He is beyond the worst president this country has ever had.

CNN-

These sources told CNN that the plan to trade Bout for Whelan and Griner received the backing of President Joe Biden after being under discussion since earlier this year. Biden's support for the swap overrides opposition from the Department of Justice, which is generally against prisoner trades.

Securing their release would also give the White House a much-needed political win ahead of the midterm elections in November, a point that some officials quietly acknowledged when speaking privately to CNN. There is also a sense of urgency to bring the two detainees home as the White House faces growing public scrutiny from the families of Americans unlawfully detained abroad.

You know they’re in trouble when they look at this as a “political win before the mid-terms”. Clowns.

The corporate media has no idea what this looks like to non-lemming voters.

So, we compromise. In order to get Wehlan back, we'll take Britney griner.

But she's got to fly out of Russia on Kobe's helicopter.

If we do this (trade an arms dealer for her) - then she better not be kneeling or pulling any other sh!t during the national anthem once she gets back here.

She'll still do it and be applauded for it because she's more loyal to "the cause" than she is to America and "the cause" is more loyal to her, than to American's.

Political win?  If it was a win they'd have done it already. This thing polls like death.
