I liked it.
The family that kills together, stays together.

Not a fan of the ending. Loose ends not tied up or I wasn't paying close enough attention.

Are the Byrdes still in deep sh1t with the messican lady?

Is the messican boss going to be in prison forever?

more murders to Byrde associates/acquaintances and no extra heat from the law?

I though it was a great show up until this last part and now have it downgraded to good.

You didn't watch the last 7 episodes, right? Just the first 7 of the latest season?

Not bad at all. Decent ending. Sucked about Ruth.

Would have almost like to have seen Wendy take the hit in the end and then the family be happy along with Ruth and and the casino etc...

I liked it overall. But for a couple episodes, Wendy kind of spoiled it for bit.

(My post in the other Ozark thread)...

Enjoyed Ozark, but was left a little "meh" by the conclusion.  It also got a little too much to bear Wendy ALWAYS opting to choose the most difficult and dangerous option with the highest likelihood of death or failure with far easier options available to solve a problem.  I mean, a LOT was okay... EVERY SINGLE TIME... not so much.  Left a little to be desired.

Also will add that Ruth is by far the best character on the show.

Adding further... the second half of the final season seemed very, VERY rushed to the conclusion, which may account for the "need" to just keep piling on the peril, even when it made zero sense to do so.  Though there were moments that they had to "shuck and jive" their way out of a predicament, there were a number of instances where their (Wendy's) decision-making process made zero sense and I think it hurt the series overall.

Yeah. In Breaking Bad, I thought every character was perfectly hate worthy. But in a good way. It was truly a perfectly ugly wonderful series.

Ozark was similar but with a few charaters you don't come away with hating them in the end. Which is no flaw of the show at all. But the deal with hating Wendy, is more attributable to poor plot moments or simply writing. She was a great character to dislike, but then it turned into not simply hating the character, but hating the writing around her character.

Still liked the show a lot though.

Is the messican boss going to be in prison forever?  He was kilt, remember?  Shot when he was supposedly free to go to the plane waiting for him. (The hit from his sister)

Completely agree. Ruth kind of goes up there with Jackson Maine from a star is born is one of those movie or show deaths you kind of wish didn’t happen because the character was so good.

Wendy definitely needed to have it coming.

My only question with the ending was that if Ruth is dead and she was supposed to launder the money, the Byrd's aren't out any more.

The new cartel boss will obviously insist that Marty keep laundering.  Only now the Byrd's need to wrestle the casino away from Three.

To me they got sucked right back in which maybe was the point...  They'll never get out.

Oooh, look at the big brain conclusion there!  (Seriously, that's a lot deeper a look than I had certainly given it and at least one that is more satisfying than anything I could come up with.)  My criticism still stands... I thought the last half of the final season was fray, chaotic, and directionless... a.k.a rushed.  Overall, a very good series.

Just finished it last night, in general I agree with this, although I would add Wendy as a comparably good character.  Not "good" from a moral position of course, but one of the better evil characters I've seen in a while.

We loved it overall, but a few more nits:

- Perhaps similar to what you are saying about the "risky" choice, the decision to bribe Mel vs. free Omar made no sense.  The obvious choice was to free Omar and kill Mel.  Mel was a nobody; Omar was a drug lord with a complex set of events put in motion to free him.

- I didn't like the move to make Javi a major player in the first part of Season 4, and apparently the writers agreed, as he was unceremoniously whacked about 5 seconds into the second half.  Similarly, Omar's sister came out of nowhere to be a major player.  To maintain a willing "suspension of disbelief" for your world, you don't introduce major new things at the last moment to tie things up.

- In a similar vein, the car crash "tease" in the beginning led us to believe that one or more of the family would die.  Getting to the last episode without it showing up strongly implied that this might be the ending, or have a major impact.  Then it turned out to be just a major rollover accident where everyone walked away fine.  Weak.

There may be more, and I don't want to come off as negative because we truly enjoyed the series.

I feel like all they really had to do is have an ending scene where the Byrdes drive off to chicago packed up and as the car gets a little further away you see an obvious tailing vehicle start following them.

it doesn’t tie up any loose ends per se but it’s a way of acknowledging that they really can’t get out of this. Maybe they don’t want to?

I have read nothing here. Finished a few days ago

What was the point of that ridiculous crash and the minivan flipping over 3 times, for no one to barely have a scratch :wall:

It was very heartwarming how none of the other motorists that witnessed the horrific accident strolled over to check if they were alive or dead.

The dumbest sh1t ever in my 40+ years of watching TV.

Ruth kills Javier and no one cares till the last episode of the show

Every other time someone died on that show, instantly they knew who did it.

The show had it's flaws, especially near the end, but I rather enjoyed it overall.

They seemed rushed to do good writing in the last season.

It's kind of like the show Designated Survivor. Rather good first season, ok second season, then the third season, some characters were just off the show without even being written off. Just not there anymore.

I wonder if they just see the writing on the wall and give up.
