Axe Elf - Skibum bet #2 - Austin Hooper verse Cole Kmet

Also, everyone is sleeping on Hooper, which will make it that much sweeter when he is a top 5 TE.

Hooper is my sleeper TE this year too. I took him over Freiermuth because I had D. Johnson, which I might regret. Hope your prediction is right.

Kmet vs Hooper is fair bet. Both should see heavy target shares in their offenses. But I will take Hooper to win because I predict more scoring opportunities.
Goedert = loss, just better talent and offense.

Ertz = invalid bet cause Ertz will miss 2+ games

Gesicki = win, I don’t think he will be on the field enough because of poor blocking.

The question of whether Austin Hooper was a manifestation of the Dirk Koetter offense when he was in Atlanta, or if he is actually a high-level TE will be tested this season.  At least in between blocking for Henry.

I think you both should pick TE that produce ff stats.

Hooper out to a commanding lead with a dominating 1 catch for 6 yards performance.

Just now, nobody said:

Hooper out to a commanding lead with a dominating 1 catch for 6 yards performance.

And it was about as good of a game script as Hooper could axe for.

The Bears were playing with a lead in a monsoon.

Kmet will catch up.

And after two weeks of zeroes for Kmet, Hooper leaps out to a seemingly insurmoutable 2-catch lead.

Kmet gets back in the game with a 6.0 point outing!

Hooper stretches his total to 8.4!

The lead narrows!

There are currently 4 NFL teams who have 3 TEs on their roster with more fantasy points than either of the TEs in this bet.

This has turned out to be the abolute worst race we could imagine.

Maybe both sides should call the bet off due to non performance of the participants.

Says more about how bad the 2 of you are on picking players.

Let’s hope one gets hurt so we can just end this. Nothing serious but where they’re out for weeks and then that nullifies this whole discussion.

Perhaps in Skibum's case, but in the case of Axe Elf, it only points out how accurate his projections really are.

When Skibum axed me who my favorite TEs for this season were, I told him Ertz, Goedert, Kmet and Gesicki, with Engram as a deep sleeper.  He wanted me to pick one of the first four to pit against Austin Hooper for a season-long competition.  Well, since he picked such a scrub TE to pit against my choices, I couldn't in good faith pick a TE like Ertz or Goedert, as the contest would have been over by October.  So it was down to Gesicki or Kmet, and I went with Kmet.

Turns out either one of them would have been a good choice to compete with Austin Hooper, but if I had chosen Gesicki, it might have been a race all season.  With Kmet's slow start, the race will at least be in contention into October, although I would imagine it's largely going to be decided by Halloween anyway.

So choosing Kmet was designed to give us a better competition than if I had chosen one of the elite TEs to compete against Skibum's scrub.

If anyone doubts that I passed over choosing Ertz or Goedert because I thought they would give me an easy win, my thinking is all documented in the original discussion:

Byron Pringle to IR!

That leaves one full target per week up for grabs!

It's the dawning of the age of Kmet!

Speaking of which, why are you carrying two defenses?

Kmet sucks

Kmet does not suck. Have you seen the bears passing offense as a whole? Scheme is awful, line not great, inaccurate QB. All adds up to a rough go for Kmet.

As of Week 3, Looks like a slow but close race that will be interesting as the season progresses. If field can get his arm going Kmet will have this by a mile.

                                       Kmet            Hooper

Fantasy Points TE #54 TE #47
FPts/Gm TE #63 TE #54

Hooper can't quite reach double digits at the quarterpost, but adds a 1.4 pt catch to his 8.4 pt bank for a grand total of 9.8 full-PPR fantasy points on the season!

Kmet triples up Hooper today, notching 3 catches for 16 yards--running the cup of his season total over into double digits, now at 10.6!

I promised you thrills--Kmet delivers with the first lead change of the season!

Let's hope it's the last...

Kmet:  10.6

Hooper:  9.8

You wanna make the tiebreaker Robby Anderson from last year vs. Austin Hooper from this year?

How?  Neither one of them see enough action to get hurt.

Door's open a bit if Hooper were to accidentally catch 2 or 3 passes some game...

In other news, Robbie Anderson ties Antonio Brown in weird exits from games; that score is now 1-1.

Cole Kmet played on 93% of the snaps for the Bears. If only Chicago was throwing the ball at a decent clip. -week 6 snap count

I couldn't even find Hoopers snap %. Is he even still utilized like he used to be?

Austin Hooper with the juggling catch of the season...  wish I could find it in slow motion.

Caught... knocked loose...  off his helmet...  muffed back into his facemask...  tracked and kept off the ground by his forearm...  all on the way to the ground.

Despite leading all Titans this week with 56 receiving yards, Hooper will still need to increase his production by 33% to overcome his early-season deficit.

I need a Swaim injury, not sure why the local beat writers talked about Hooper as the first every down TE in years when that obviously was not the case.

Local beat writers suck.
