MDC 5,174 Posted September 1, 2022 Mine is tomato pie. It’s Pennsylvania Dutch. I’d describe it as a rectangular pizza, with a slightly thicker crust but not quit Aixilian pizza style. No cheese and the sauce is spiced like a marinara with some shaved basil and parm on top, served cold. Sounds odd but it’s f’ing delicious.

We have a Tomato Pie in North Carolina but it is very different than what you describe. Interesting. Pulled Pork BBQ, Shrimp n Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes and Pimento Cheese (aka Carolina Caviar) come to mind. Also pretty much anything sweet potatoes, NC has been the leading Sweet Potato producer in the nation for 50+ years.
wiffleball 4,507 Posted September 1, 2022 As far as I know, green chili is one of the last remaining truly regional foods. Pretty much specific to New Mexico and Colorado and arizona. It's freaking amazing. But somehow, just doesn't travel well. Stokes green chili is pretty f****** good. There are many a night when I was Stone broke and I would boil rice and pour in a can of Stokes green chili and that s*** would warn me from the inside out. F****** amazing
wiffleball 4,507 Posted September 1, 2022 And yeah, I have to admit that scrapple is truly regional to the northeast. Pennsylvania specifically. God that's awful.

F****** amazing Local garden center just got in a fresh load of Hatch, Anneheim, and some other chilis. I have a mixed load of 5 lbs roasting over some mesquite right now. I will eat a handful right off the grill and use the rest to make green chili. Football season is upon us and I need green chili for nachos to eggs to brats during the season. Also great for left over thanksgiving turkey made into burritos, You have to smother those burritos to make the most of them. I will be buying another load this weekend or next. Totally worth it to me to roast them over wood instead of buying propane roasted ones.

The huge 1800's German settlement in Central Texas is mostly responsible for the Texas bbq all are familiar with today. And you're nuts, nothing better than Texas Brisket.
