If something like this is gonna happen, best it's during a Thursday game.

I doubt he misses any games. How it may effect his play though? We'll see

Even if he doesn’t miss any games, he’s not going to be the same until 100% healed.

Now this is going to be interesting how it affects him, plus Ekeler and the rest.

It’s a tough situation.

What a cheap shot that was 🤥

Status? Any insider news....

Word seems to be they will basically give him an injection before the game and let him go.

Doh!  I thought they fired that guy.....  unless he was told to do that so Herbert would get to start.....

Let the conspiracy theories begin

David Chao said that what they will/might essentially do is give him a "rib intercostal block injection" which is used the numb the pain. That would obviously be of course dependent on what his pain tolerance abilities are.

Ironically this would be the same injection that was given to Tyrod Taylor that put him on the shelf in the 2020 season.

So maybe better to just tell Herbert to deal with the pain.

i think I am playing K Cousins and sitting Herbert regardless...thoughts?

I wouldn't make that decision until the last possible minute.

They're reporting that he's recovering well and been practicing some. I'll probably have him in my starting line up unless he has a set back or something

I think you almost have to bite the bullet with Herbert this week and play him to see how he is and how they call the game.

They are reporting that he was seen practicing handoffs to the RBs during that portion of practice.  Closed practice the rest of the period..... Staley said "light throwing session".  I'd see how today and tomorrow play out.  Cousins on a bounce back against the Lions isn't sounding too bad...

no practice again today from Bobby Herbert.... Chase was reportedly taking the 1st team snaps.

I don’t think Bobby Hebert has practiced in years

I noticed the line dropped from Chargers -7 to chargers -3.  My guess is Herbert isn't playing based on that.

I would expect the spread to change even if Herbert was to start, don’t know how much pain he’s going to be able to tolerate until everyone sees him play with his injury.

They'd numb it if he played, of course.

Herbert must sign a form advising him of the risks of an injection if he has one. Fractured rib cartilage is generally slower to heal that a fractured rib(s) because there’s no blood supply to cartilage. Team has been “proactive” in communicating with NFLPA and NFL

How do you "fracture" cartilage? I have never heard of that. I have had torn intercostals in my ribs and such, and I have had problems with cartilage from time to time in the past, but it was always because the cartilage was being stretched more than it should be and can't recover from it. Wasn't difficult to get past it at the time.

But fracture? Crazy talk.
