They're hard rock. Angus called it scab rock. But there is nothing metal about them.

Metal is as much about style and attitude as the music.

I love Motorhead but wouldn't call them metal, although they certainly influenced metal, as did Eddie Van Halen.

Feels silly picking all frontmen. I'm going for allstar.

Eddie

Steve Harris

John Bonham

I'd pick Page, but then I couldnt hav Bonham.

And I agree ACDC, VH and even LZ could be considered more hard rock -  but all three are more metal than foking Metallica. If you want to talk about metal princesses you start with Metallica.

Agreed.  Unless Tool is considered Metal....then I may have to substitute one.

Pantera, Slayer, Slipknot, Tool, and a 100 others better than Metallica.

Master of Puppets and Paranoid are the two greatest metal albums of all time. Whatever is third isn't even close. Led Zeppelin is not metal.

Music is art and a personal taste, but from a macro POV you could not be more wrong.

Tool is king of whatever genre one would consider it. They're hard as fock but not metal.

I'm betting he hasn't heard their first four albums. They invented thrash metal.

Outside of Load and Reload, all their stuff is great.

I've never understood the hate for St. Anger.

That was like their Presence. Raw. No solos. Honest. Brutal.

Its my question. Are they or aren't they?   If so take out Judas Priest.  It's close but we need an official ruling.

Paranoid isnt even in the top 5 of Sabbath albums.  But that's ok, I can tell you are just going to go on and on with your normal nonsense all night and end up jerking off to Sandman. 👍

You should ask the OP. Not Mr. Knowitall.

I'd submit NIN vs Tool in the alternate metal catagory.

Tool is part of a family tree that dates back to Killing Joke. I'd call it industrial metal, along with NIN, Marylyn Manson and Korn.

But if we are talking about the Mount Rushmore of Metal, Sabbath (the sound and gloom), Judas Priest (style and attitude), Iron Maiden (speed and chops) and Metallica (thrash) are the only calls.

Nobody questions @BunnysBastatrds post which we agree.  The problem though is that you are strictly pigeon holing "Metal" to a 20 year period alone.  That's kinda sad.

I specifically noted in regard to you the first four albums, which excludes Sandman, although there is plenty of heavy stuff on that album.

But keep head banging to That's the Way and Carouselambra if you think that's metal.

😂

I'm good with this order. Sabbath has to be No. 1 because they invented it.

Metallica took the genre to a whole new level.

Priest brought the leather, spikes, attitude and a higher pulse than Sabbath.

Maiden bridged the gap between Priest and Metallica.

Perfect list!

I have "Love Like Blood" on vinyl from when I was in high school.
