Did I Miss the PayPal Thread about Disinformation?

Recommended Posts

PayPal puts it into their policy that they can withdraw $2500 if someone is caught sharing “disinformation”.

Then, after the backlash, they come out and say it was an error.

Another company trying to commit suicide.

I think they just did. I think I've only used paypal once, and that was a long time ago.

Yeah. The Russia hoax would have cost you and a few others a fortune.

This was a terrible idea for PayPal. What did they think would happen?

Probably they just want the publicity to remind people they still exist

Why paypal over a credit card? Is there something better about it?

I'm skeptical. Even a woke company wouldn't come up with something this stupid.

Why use PayPal ?

Because I have a large balance from selling football cards on eBay in 2020.

It’s faster and still puts it on my credit card. Just click the PayPal link, login and it puts in all my info automatically. Emails me a receipt too.  Adds another level of security too.

They already have your address and card info, so you don't have to re-enter it, particularly you don't have to give put your card info out there to every website you do business with.

Looks like I'll be going through the extra pain though.  Buy bye Paypal unless I need to use it.

We use it every single day to make and accept payments for our Sports Card biz.

They said if you’re cancelling because of the 2500 fine issue that it went out in error and they would credit your account 15 if you stayed.

I find it hard to believe that a corporation could be that stupid. Anyone in the company with an IQ higher than their shoe size would have to know there would be tremendous backlash.

But then again, in 2022 America, I'm beyond surprises.
What I am sure of is this. I just visited the homepage. This is a company worth $97 billion. If it was my company, I'd sure as hell have a giant header telling shareholders & users alike, that it was nothing more than an unfortunate error and never would've been implemented. Instead, no mention of it.

I'd love to close my account as well, but I still sell quite a few sports cards on eBay & you pretty much have to have a PayPal Account because that's what everyone uses for payment.

PayPal very much exists. I do think they got hurt significantly when Ebay cut them out as a middle man for sellers.

PayPal works pretty seamlessly in a lot of areas though, like funding sports gambling accounts that some banks / CCs won't fund directly even with it being legal. When you initiate a deposit using PayPal, your bank doesn't care because the transaction simply comes through as $500 to PayPal, etc. You can link bank accounts and/or CC's. I don't use it as often as I used to but it's nice to have an extra layer of security in tandem with your bank or CC provider when making online payments.

It's no different than using Zelle or Venmo... which i'm sure you all know is owned by PayPal... but because PayPal has been around so much longer, it's viewed as the dinosaur.

PayPal also came in handy for me numerous times when I used to get Amex Giftcard bonuses through work. Didn't want to have to use those things at stores so I set up a second PayPal under a different e-mail, linked the Amex card and then used to to send the funds to my main account. It was a very small % fee to do it this way.

Dammit.  I should've held off on closing my account.  I only set it up so that a buddy could pay me his FF dues.

Could've used the $15 for beer money.
