Baseball rules

1.  A batted ball that hits a foul pole is indeed fair and a home run.

2.  A batted ball up the middle that hits the pitching rubber first, then careens foul (in the infield aka before the bases) is a foul ball.

In baseball and soccer, a guy standing out of bounds can legally play a ball that is in bounds.

In football and basketball, a guy standing in bounds can legally play a ball that is out of bounds.

:dunno:

The rules in baseball clearly state that no ball is fair until it bases the bases in fair territory... OR if a player in fair territory touches the ball.  The foul pole is a 3D version of the foul line.  That pole/line are in fair territory, everything outside of it is foul.  Any ball that stops on the baseline, is fair.  I'm not sure what your issue is.

Why is it called the foul pole? if the ball hits it, it is fair

In baseball and soccer, the rules are about the position of the ball... not possession.  In football and basketball, it's about possession of the ball and not position.

Because it marks the end of fair territory.  Everything outside of that, is foul.
