Here’s an example: NPR and the leftist media have framed what’s going on in Ukraine as standing with democracy.  And some, many actually, people on Fox have said the same thing.  Well it’s not. Ukraine isn’t a democracy.  Never has been.  In a democracy, no one gets tossed out of office in a coup fomented by other countries.  And vanquished political opponents don’t have to flee the country for their lives. In a democracy, the guy leaving office gets a pension, a secret service detachment and a library. I know these things because they happened.  And do happen.  But if I just believed any of the media, including fox, I would think it is about standing with democracy. Because they all lie.

Thanks Tucker!

The thing is, if it’s not about standing with democracy, and it isn’t, then what is it about? Liberals won’t dare ask that question. The answer is the neo-cons got us involved in another mess. Remember when the left hated them? Hardcore farms remembers. Now they cheer them on along with the corporations and the banks. Trump focked em all up.

I’d think that number would be much lower if they saw the war the way Tuckeradour frames it. Seems like they don’t want to be under Russian rule. So maybe Tucker and company should stop trying to score political points off it if you’re so concerned.

Rah Rah Siss Boom Bah. Can I get a hey-o for Ratheon? Also, imagine there was never a fight to begin with? Hmmm, how could that have been prevented? I have a question California hippy girl, what’s your favorite defense contractor? My you have changed. I can guarantee you were yelling about Halliburton back in the day, and you knew who the players were. Now look at you.  Victoria Nuland sounds like someone on Downton Abbey to you and Jake Sullivan may as well be a contestant on the bachelor.

They all do lie. Disagree? It’s up to the reader to use their brain to figure out what part of what they say is true. Going to NPR for news about the government isn’t much different than going to the public relations rep for a company for news about them. You try too hard.

I wholeheartedly disagree with your entire premise. They do not all lie. Most of them are factually accurate, and will admit when they make a mistake in their reporting. What is up to the reader is to identify the slanted language used to tell those factual truths, and separate it from the truth. The NYT doesn't lie. But they do use plenty of slanted language that appeals to liberals and paints certain people and events in the light desired by the writer/editor. And it's not that difficult to discern that language in most cases.

Newsweek

During his prime-time show Wednesday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson claimed Ukraine is not a democracy and cited the Ukrainian government's decision to suspend 11 political parties with links to Russia.

Carlson said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "took the opportunity to turn Ukraine into effectively a one-party state, which it now is."

Groups that assess countries' democratic standing have rated Ukraine as a "flawed democracy" or a "hybrid regime" and the country continues to struggle with corruption. However, those assessments may not take into account actions Ukraine has taken during the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine's president is directly elected by the people, while the country's lawmakers are elected in both single-seat constituencies and through proportional representation.

The legislature chooses the prime minister by majority vote, and the president appoints members of the supreme court after they have been nominated by the Supreme Council of Justice.

The U.S. State Department found in its 2020 report on human rights practice in Ukraine that the 2019 election was fair.

On Monday, Carlson focused on the decision to ban the Opposition Platform for Life, which came second in the most recent elections and won 44 seats out of 450 in the Ukrainian parliament.

Zelensky said in a video address on Sunday: "The activities of those politicians aimed at division or collusion will not succeed, but will receive a harsh response."

"Therefore, the national security and defense council decided, given the full-scale war unleashed by Russia, and the political ties that a number of political structures have with this state, to suspend any activity of a number of political parties for the period of martial law," he said.

Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the Opposition Platform for Life, is a pro-Russia oligarch who was last year charged with treason and placed under house arrest last year. He reportedly escaped house arrest on February 24 and his whereabouts are unknown.

So HT, you're arguing that Ukraine isn't a democracy because they arrested a Russian Oligarch in charge of a rival political party leading up to a war with Russia.

This is stupid, even by your standards.

Ah, the old it isn’t Putin’s fault that he started this war, it’s ours, part of the argument.

Since you seem to need something to do, why don’t you go find me some posts where I was cheering for Halliburton? That should keep you entertained for awhile. Me, I’ve got shopping and stuff to do before tomorrow.

Good luck on your search, Tuckerdour!

Mueller report was from Republicans. Jan 6 was supposed to be a fully independent commission, but the GOP blocked it. It has focused on testimony from Trump’s inner circle and other Republicans. It’s been pretty fair so far. The goal should be to prevent another Jan 6, whether or not it includes criminal charges against Trump.

Is this what we are spending all of the time and money on for the 1/6 hearings?  If so, let me solve the problem for half the price:  since you can't prevent people from protesting the government, if you are aware of a protest scheduled for a given day, increase security on said day, and don't open the doors and escort them in.

This was Trump’s job as president of the United States. He failed. And this investigation is trying to find out how the failure happened. Everybody knew something like this was coming. People living and working in DC were told to stay away from the WH and Capitol the day before. IMO, Trump knew this was coming, encouraged it, and intentionally refused to provide security before and during. If that’s true, he should be held accountable. If it’s not true, then the DHS needs to figure out how they failed so badly. And before anybody tries to blame the Capitol police or somebody other than the President, the Cap police don’t have enough people to stop a mob of that size. Other agencies, under the control of the President, need to help in such situations, and they did not.

Seems to me a lot of right-wingers don’t want the investigation because it is likely to expose bad actors who are right-wingers. I don’t get that. If you’ve got incompetent people, or worse, traitors to America, in your own party, don’t you want to find them and kick them out?

Can you show me where it was Trump's job to do this?  My quick google search didn't find it.  Here is an article from Politifact, which is pretty Lefty like most "objective" fact checkers:

Quote

No, Capitol security is not only Pelosi’s responsibility, but she bears some

IF YOUR TIME IS SHORT

  • Capitol security is not solely the responsibility of the House speaker. It is provided by the sergeants-at-arms of the House and Senate, and by the Capitol Police.

  • The House sergeant-at-arms reports to the House speaker, or Pelosi at the time of the attack. The Senate sergeant-at-arms reports to the Senate majority leader — on Jan. 6, Sen. Mitch McConnell.

  • News reports indicate that in the days before the attack,  House sergeant-at-arms Paul Irving resisted calls from the Capitol Police to bring in the National Guard for extra security at the Capitol because of “optics.” Irving later testified that intelligence reports didn’t show the need for the extra security, not that he rejected it because of optics.

More than six weeks after supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol, posts spread on Facebook claiming that one person was to blame: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

One widely shared post claimed in all capital letters:

"ONLY ONE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED AT THE CAPITOL ON 6 JANUARY — ‘NANCY PELOSI’ — SECURITY AT THE CAPITOL IS HER JOB!!!"

The post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

The post echoes the sentiment in a Feb. 15 letter to Pelosi from four top GOP House members. It suggested the California Democrat was at least partly at fault, asserting that "the Speaker is responsible for all operational decisions made within the House."

The post is wrong: Security at the 1.5 million-square-foot U.S. Capitol building does not fall solely to the speaker. Though Pelosi does have a role in the hierarchy overseeing security, there is no indication she controls its day-to-day operations.

Responsibility for Capitol security shared

Capitol security is provided by the sergeants-at-arms , who are the chief law enforcement officers for the House and Senate, in coordination with the Capitol Police, a federal law enforcement agency.

The House sergeant-at-arms reports to the speaker of the House, or Pelosi at the time of the attack. The Senate sergeant-at-arms reports to the Senate majority leader; in the days leading up to and including Jan. 6, that was Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell.

Security of the Capitol Complex is the direct responsibility of the four-member Capitol Police Board, which includes both sergeants-at-arms, said Jane Campbell, president and CEO of the United States Capitol Historical Society.

The Jan. 6 attack

On Jan. 6, a joint session of Congress was held in the House chamber to officially count the electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election.

The proceedings were interrupted by a mob protesting the election results that showed Joe Biden winning over then-President Donald Trump. The attack left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer, whose death the following day is still under investigation.

Former House sergeant-at-arms Paul Irving resigned after the attack, as did former Senate sergeant-at-arms Michael Stenger and Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund.

Irving told Sund ahead of the riot that he did not want National Guard troops at the Capitol on Jan. 6 because of bad "optics," the Washington Post and the New York Times reported.

In Feb. 23 testimony before lawmakers, Irving said that "optics" did not play a role in his decision. He said he, Stenger and Sund agreed the intelligence they received didn't warrant the troops.

The Times reported that at 1:09 p.m. on the day of the attack, minutes after protesters had burst through the barricades and began using the steel debris to assault the officers, Sund asked Irving for help from the National Guard. Irving called Sund back an hour later and said congressional leaders had approved the request; the article does not identify the leaders. But another hour passed before Defense Secretary Christopher Miller gave final approval to the request.

In his testimony, Irving said he didn’t recall receiving a call from Sund until shortly before 2 p.m. Sund testified that the call was made shortly after 1 p.m.

The delay in deploying the National Guard was caused by communication breakdowns, inaction and confusion over who had authority to call for the National Guard, the Times analysis found.

Pelosi called for an independent 9/11-type commission to review and investigate the Capitol attack. She also tapped retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré to investigate security failures that day. McConnell has blasted Pelosi’s proposal as "partisan by design."

Our ruling

A widely shared Facebook post claimed that only Pelosi is "responsible for what happened at the Capitol" on Jan. 6, "security at the Capitol is her job."

Responsibility for Capitol security is shared, it is not solely the responsibility of the Speaker.

Security is provided by the sergeant-at-arms of the House, the sergeant-at-arms of the Senate and the Capitol Police. The House  sergeant-at-arms reports to the House speaker, Pelosi. The Senate sergeant-at-arms reports to the Senate majority leader, then McConnell. The Capitol Police is overseen by a four-member board that includes both sergeants-at-arms.

News reports indicate that before the attack, the House sergeant-at-arms resisted calls from the Capitol Police to bring in the National Guard for extra security at the Capitol because of "optics," but he said intelligence reports didn’t warrant the extra security.

The chain of command for Capitol security does include Pelosi, but it does not fall solely to her as this post claims. Others in the chain of command include the Senate majority leader and the Capitol police chief. We rate the claim Mostly False.

Why is it that Maddow hasn't been sued like Tucker? Why haven't the lawyers at MSNBC had to issue similar statements?

You can compare these two based on the rank partisanship they display, but not much else. You might not like or agree with her, but she is absolutely a journalist, and Tucker is not. She fact-checks and investigates. Tucker doesn't. She doesn't get sued for libel or slander. Tucker does. But I'm sure that's just luck or the liberal media's fault, and has nothing to do with what happens when you come from a place of factual evidence, as opposed to crooked hysteria and gaslighting.

I infer that you are not aware that she was sued

She is no different than Tucker, aside from the fact that Tucker has always admitted his situation

It’s astonishing to me that you don’t hold the previous president responsible for defense of the nation’s Capitol… but you do hold the current president responsible for the border crisis, and the Afghanistan withdrawal problems. And I agree that he has responsibility for those things, although my ideas of how to fix them are different than most conservatives.

If a couple thousand people stormed the Capitol next year, I know for a fact all conservatives would blame Biden, and not Kevin McCarthy. And they’d be right. The president swears an oath to defend the nation, and that doesn’t mean only defending the people that he likes or that voted for him.

The only explanation I can think of for this insanity is that people have their heads so far up Trump’s ass that they discovered the Muppet Babies happy meal toy that’s been lodged in his large intestine since he was scarfing down McNuggets and Diet Coke sometime in the 80s.

As for Portland, I find it VERY telling that Trump sent agents there, but refused to send them to the nation’s Capitol. It’s all about transactional politics with him, NEVER about the good of the country. He had no intention to protect the Capitol because they were about to certify an election that put him out of power.

The buck stops with the president when it comes to national security. If you’re going to criticize Biden for the border issues (I agree he needs to do better), and NOT criticize Trump for allowing the events of Jan 6, you’re maintaining a very obvious double standard.

As for your NG claim, that is a false statement from Trump.

No, you don’t. We’ll just agree that Ukraine is no democracy and it never has been. It’s a Kleptocracy.  You’re welcome.

I assume the “we” you’re referring to is you and the Teddy Ruxpin you have dressed up as Trump in your bedroom.

Uh huh. Deflect away. But your ignorance was on display.  Rarely right, but never in doubt.

I do enjoy that this Zelensky guy wins.  Russia was rather intent that he not, and in the past meddled heavily in the elections to ensure the candidate most favorable to them would win, and alas that clown did not.  And we can look to that as a key reason that Russia eventually invaded.  They had to wait until Trump was gone, and they struck at exactly the right moment.

This guy is a complete middle finger to Russia, and that he called the elections early was such an "FU" to Putin, I absolutely love it.

so then them instilling Zelensky should not be celebrated

I am not sure what you mean or where you are going with this.   Are you asserting that the US gov was responsible for his election? And they have somehow inserted fraud into the process?

I know we overthrew the previous regime and the guy that got instilled is our puppet

I see.  I am not aware of anything, at this time, to suggest this guy is our puppet. Maybe he is, it sure seems like Hunter had some weird inroads over there and perhaps there is a tie in, not sure.

It makes sense that Putin would hate Zelensky being there as much as we hated Castro being so close. it was sound logic on the part of Putin to wait for a weak leader in the US to make his strike as well.

as to the first part, anytime we interfere with an overthrow you can 100% assume the replacement is our puppet
