Diversity & Inclusion "Training"

Dear God. So glad to be retiring.

Required reading-

What Is Bias?

Bias is a particular tendency, trend, inclination, feeling, or opinion, especially one that is preconceived or unreasoned. In science and engineering, a bias is a systematic error, meaning your system (or brain) is wired to make unconscious decisions to save time, energy, and maybe your life.

Affinity bias is the unconscious tendency to get along with others who are similar to us. These similarities can be the way we look, our backgrounds, or shared interests and common experiences.

Most of us operate under two flawed assumptions:

  1. We see people objectively as they are.
  2. We see people as they see themselves.

There is no neutrality. There is only greater or lesser awareness of one's bias.

Hopefully the pushback and the facts win out in the end.

What if you're "biased" against someone that is an azzhole regardless of their particular race/gender/religion/orientation?  Is that still bad or is it acceptable in this case?

Nothing wrong with that.
