Jacoby Ellsbury should be arrested for grand theft larceny for stealing from the Yankees.

Jeff Kent is such an interesting player.  he was nothing much until age 29 when he went to the Giants and then he explodes averaging like 30 homers a year until age 39, with an ML NVP, multiple silver slugger awards, even at age 39 he hit .302 with 20 homers.  also he was clean, no steroids, and in fact a huge critics of steroids.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SFGiants/comments/7suft6/why_is_jeff_kent_doing_terrible_in_the_hof/

he was one of Sabean's first trades as a GM, one he had to defend vehemently because he sent out fan favorite Matt Williams for a player who would become a future MVP who hit more home runs and any second baseman did ever.

He was also extremely eccentric.  I used to have connections with the Giants and would go to see them in Atlanta.  In those days they stayed at the Marriott Marquis in downtown.  Kent stayed in a separate hotel, was told that was pretty frequent.  You'd see Bonds milling around with teammates, not Kent.  I don't think he created a lot of goodwill with teammates or even some writers in his playing days, and you never hear from him now.  Some of that could be why he is having trouble gaining HOF traction.

You'd think Kent would be a lock as he didn't like Bonds and the voters are a bunch of fact hacks

I'd only go with the three bolded, although the HOF has certainly become more of the hall of very good lately with players like Harold Baines.  I'm a big fan of both Wagner and Beltran but don't think either should be in.  I could see Wagner more than Beltran.  I think the Astros scandal is going to have a drag on any small chance Beltran had.  That's a pretty weak year 1 class overall.  Sheffield wasn't always the most media friendly guy either, but when you look at his numbers he's hard to argue against.  A lot of the BBWA carry over grudges in these things in my opinion.

hes better than Ozzy for sure, but I dont give bonus points for longevity

if you aren't one of the top 2 players at your position for an entire decade, you would not receive my vote

Helton would be my 3rd of any on the list

the 1st time list is pathetic lol

Rolen barely makes it into the Hall…. One needed 292, Rolen received 297…

Helton was next with 281…

From a purely baseball standpoint*, I've would have voted Francisco Rodrirquez from the first timers list.  For me he would be about the bar I would have for a relief pitcher, as good or better than KRod, you get my vote.

* I'm not a voter, so I really haven't considered how much, if any the off-field assault stuff has played in his case.

I could see an argument for KRod, cause I think hes one of the first bigtime closers that came up as nothing but a closer, he was kinda ground breaking

I wouid have to consider K Rod as well. Closers with his longevity are rare. And you just can’t compare any of these closers to Mariano. It’s just not fair.

That's a fair point, cause I was using Mariano as the top end of the metric when considering K Rod. You take him out of the equation and then KRod's numbers look really good for as a HOF reliever.  Was looking at the stats and Eckersley is in a class by himself how much he has distanced himself from all the other relievers(not counting his 2500 ip as a starter)...and that's about the distance Mariano has over Eck!

The Baseball Hall of Fame is such a joke. Curmudgeonly, underpaid and overworked sports writers decide who gets in, and a guy like Curt Schilling doesn't get in because of his controversial far-right viewpoints.

Schilling, Clemens and the steroids-era guys like Bonds ought to be in.

Totally agreed, especially with David Ortiz, Mike Piazza and Jeff Bagwell already in there...

Whoa... Well said.

I worked with myriad sports writers over the course of decades. I know how they are, and the baseball writers are absolute game purists, so any little thing will get them to not vote for someone.

They think they are super duper experts on all things sports, which made it fun to be in fantasy-football leagues with them. They thought they were oh so smarter than actual fantasy experts, and I'd kick their asses every year in leagues.

Hell, I think Pete Rose belongs in the hall. He more than deserves it for his play on the field.
