It’s Trump’s ideas that are the embarrassment.

I keep running into conservatives, including some in my family,, who are ready to move on from Donald Trump. They’re sick of the controversy, the January 6 debacle, his narcissism, his ego. 

But they’re not sick of his ideas. And that’s a problem. They still believe that illegal immigration can only be answered by shutting down the border. They still are opposed to free trade, internationalism, and aiding Ukraine. They still suspect Covid 19 was a government conspiracy and regard Dr. Fauci as a villain. They’re still obsessed with transsexualism, and fighting what they regard as woke ideas. The old Ronald Reagan formula of internationalism abroad and capitalism at home is dead, replaced with white nationalism that has taken over the conservative movement. 
 

So even if Trump goes away, so long as the current conservative movement maintains these horrible ideas, they’re still going to lose. Because they’re not only bad, they’re just not popular with the American public.

Some of the ideas Trump campaigned on were pretty good. For example supporting US labor, tariffs on US businesses that offshore jobs and replacing the ACA with something better. 

What he delivered was boilerplate GOP policies like corporate tax cuts and deregulation. Mitt Romney with a Twitter handle.

Everything that minorities ask for, from a new national voting rights act to a national police reform bill to more spending in the inner cities, all of it is opposed by conservatives. Add this to Trump’s racist rhetoric and the fact that so many conservatives question voting results in large minority areas it’s hard not to conclude that they are anti-minority.

until we have no people in this country suffering I oppose ALL AIDE to ANY other country, (I actually always oppose it)  I support free trade (remind me when we have had free trade? Oh thats right never, its always the US getting bent over)

I don’t think I’ve offered any straw men. My argument is that since giving amnesty is a benefit, not to “my side” but to the nation, I don’t think any trade off is necessary. Nonetheless I strongly believe that liberals should listen more to conservatives about nuclear energy, which is why I added that. Trying to be serious.

The phrase “well-regulated”, IMO, gives the government the right to restrict the sales of certain weapons, and also to impose other restrictions such as universal background checks. In fact I would argue that there can be no “well-regulated” militia without full gun registration.

I don’t think that anyone misunderstands that those who are opposed to illegal immigration are not necessarily anti-legal immigrant, nor bigoted. I certainly get that. 

But the problem is that ever since the Trump era began, the two issues are conflated. Trump himself rarely gave a speech attacking illegal immigration in which he didn’t attack ALL immigration. And other conservatives constantly speak of people seeking legal asylum as illegal immigrants. So it’s not a question of “liberals don’t get it”; it’s more that conservatives deliberately refuse to separate.

I am conservative libertarian, I am ok with limited abortion for example.  I also think the man involved in a pregnancy should be part of that

the conservative movement is not being dominated by white nationalism, as a matter of fact, most all of the conservatives I see are extremely proud when hispanics and blacks (who are actually more naturally conservative) than whites finally wake up to the scam that is the DNC.  Dont get me wrong I hate the GOP, but of the two parties, they are the ones that believe in freedom, hence how I vote

  How do all the other non-communist countries keep their borders secure?  Countries have to have border security in some way.

Every Dem I know that is not in office wants more border security so this should not be a partisan issue.
