Black people in my company make comparable salaries to everyone else in the company that hold the same titles they do. What kind of job do you have that pays black people less because of their skin color?

‘Socialist’ teacher admits she wants to ‘abolish the police’ amid school curriculum battle with DeSantis

'Taylor sees capitalism as synonymous with racism,' accused a National Review op-ed

The battle over Florida school curriculum is heating up after a professor who was one of the key authors behind the College Board recommended AP African-American Studies (APAAS) course called to "abolish the police" and was accused of being a "socialist."

African American Studies professor at Northwestern University, Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, laughed off a recent op-ed from the National Review that identified her as one of the leading voices in an AP course that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently rejected and pointed to her left-wing political views.

Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor "is a socialist, and in no way shy about it," the National Review wrote.

The activist professor, who the National Review wrote would be part of the "recommended topic readings" for Florida students, allegedly wants capitalism to be replaced.

"Taylor sees capitalism as synonymous with racism, and she argues that any successful struggle against racism must ultimately replace capitalism as well."

Taylor also tweeted out one quote from the National Review opinion piece, which she jokingly called her "favorite." It was about her reputed fondness for dictators.

"While Taylor rejects Stalin’s authoritarianism, she remains quite fond of Marx and Lenin."

DeSantis has been accused of wanting to "block" the study of "Black Americans" after his administration rejected the College Board’s controversial AP AAS course, which relied heavily on activist authors like Taylor, according to the National Review.

A Boston Globe opinion columnist went even farther, writing that DeSantis’ refusal to admit the radical AP course "carries the stench of white slaveowners."

DeSantis, on the other hand, has argued that the College Board’s course was "historically inaccurate" and designed to advance a woke agenda, instead of actual black history.

"This course on Black history, what’s one of the lessons about? Queer theory," DeSantis said on Jan. 23.

This article demonstrates the flaw in the conservative, pro-DeSantis position. Taylor is one of the writers that the students would be reading from. Will they be reading the material that the article is criticizing her for, the supposed love for dictators, or Marx or Lenin? Very doubtful. They will no doubt be reading her writings on race, which are highly thought of and considered important to be exposed to. Will the students be brainwashed by this material? Hardly.

In English classes all across this country, students are exposed to writers like Theodore Dreiser, Upton Sinclair, Lillian Hellman, Zola Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, and many others. All of the writers I just named were Communists or Socialists. Should we ban these classes because of their political affiliation? That’s where this is heading.

This reply demonstrates the flaw in radical leftist thinking. Progressive politics and those who push it should be put down and rubbed out of consideration in this country. That type of political liberal thinking makes for a long slow road to hell and the demise of a once great nation.

We should not teach the children of this country a bunch of lies like the leftists want to teach.

Were I a teacher in Florida, where the law says you can be convicted of a felony for having the “wrong” book on the shelf, but the legislators follow it up with “just use common sense” to determine which books are “wrong” instead of having a list? Hell yeah I’d toss every book. I wouldn’t want to risk jail because some legislator found something they didn’t like on page 134 of some random book.

Good thing they don't let you "teach". You don't know anything anyone needs to know.

Yeah, all of those books are gone forever.  Almost all of them won’t be returned after they are cleared. More fun to yell NAZI!

You have to realize that some people don't want to look into what kids may be exposed to in their informative years. They should be treated as 40 year old adults who have been independent and taking care of themselves for the past 20 years.

They look at that and really think all those books are being banned. Meanwhile it will be very few.  Nazis!

How very liberal of you and yours:

Catholic school students kicked out of Smithsonian museum in DC over pro-life beanies

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum kicked out a dozen Catholic high school students and their chaperones for wearing beanies inscribed with pro-life messages.

On Jan. 20, students and chaperones from Our Lady of the Rosary School based out of Greenville, South Carolina, traveled to Washington, D.C., for the annual National March for Life. The group members were all wearing matching blue beanies with the words "Rosary PRO-LIFE."

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), representing the parents of some of the students involved, alleged that the museum staff mocked the students, hurled expletives and claimed the museum was a "neutral zone" where political or religious messages were not allowed.

On Twitter, the mother of one of the students said the group was approached by a security guard who told them to either take off their beanies or leave the premises. Her daughter allegedly told the guard they were wearing the hats to identify and find one another in the crowd before they were escorted out of the museum.

Other people in the museum were wearing all sorts of different hats as they traversed the exhibits, according to ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow.

"This is a clear and egregious abuse of the First Amendment, which protects their right to free speech without government interference, and we are ready to take action," Sekulow said. "A government institution cannot censor an individual's speech, much less speech from the inherently Christian pro-life position."

Sekulow, noting that the Smithsonian Institution is a federal entity that receives upwards of $1 billion from the government each fiscal year, said the decision by the museum was an example of "outrageous" and "abhorrent" discrimination.

Easy.  It's 100% white institutional and systemic racism from conservamagatard nazis, and 0% a culture which discourages education, family, and personal responsibility, and 0% the woke white flagellating apologists who continue to tell the black community that it is not their fault and they should just continue failing until those good whiteys get them more free stuff to fix all of their problems.

Leftism = the soft bigotry of low expectations.

The college board is changing the curriculum of the African-Americans studies course. Critics say it’s being done to appease DeSantis:

Let’s see if Florida accepts the new course. I’m betting they won’t. If they do, I will be forced to reassess my position.

Interesting, thanks.  It does indeed look like they changed it to appease Florida:

Quote

What the College Board changed in the course

Though the nonprofit maintains it did not "purge" the curriculum of key lessons concerning "Black feminism" and "gay Black Americans," it also acknowledged a reduction in the "breadth" of the new framework.

Of the units that appeared in the pilot course, those about intersectionality and activism, Black feminist literary thought, and Black Queer Studies are not in the final curriculum.

The framework also drops its exploration of the origins, mission and global influence of the Movement for Black Lives. Instead, Black Lives Matter is listed alongside Black conservatism as a sample course project, labeled "Illustrative Only."

On the topic of Queer Studies, since it is an accurate accounting of black culture, I presume that they had planned to discuss how black culture hates the gays, generating the whole "on the down low" sub-culture.  :dunno:

This is a case where there’s a bit of dishonesty on both sides.

First. DeSantis went after the pilot course for supposedly having a bunch of mandatory reading in the curriculum. None of the stuff he complained about will be mandatory in the final course… which is apparently pretty common when a pilot course switches to its final version.

Second, people saying that the College Board changed this as a capitulation to DeSantis? The finalized version they released was actually finalized in December. So there goes that argument.

Here’s an interview with the people from College Board laying it out. Trigger warning: they talk about all the stuff hated by DeSantis in a very positive light and point out it can still be part of the course, but not mandatory.

Go to about 1:10 on the video for the question of whether they changed things based on the criticism from DeSantis.

It is telling that "freedom" is only used by the left to prop up their faux virtue signaling, to protect the dogma of liberalism.

Should some group or individual not residing within their version of "truth" demand freedom they are disinclined to allow it.  Tolerance is definitely not there.

It is funny that the left can use freedom with a straight face.  The left will completely trash the freedom of speech under the guise of needing to protect everyone from 'misinformation'.  The left will indefinitely lock the country down under the guise of some 'catestrophic' pandemic.  The left has no issue with mandating experimental 'vaccines' on the entire population including children under the guise of public safety.   Freedoms of all Americans to have free speech, freedom to move about, freedom of protecting your own body....Real individuals freedoms can be trashed on a whim.   But to stop government employees from indoctronation children with racist nonsense and gender theories....now that is what the left considers vital protected speech that must not be infringed.   That is 100 percent upsidedown moronic authoritarian deepstate logic.  What sane person could actually hold those beliefs?

Good Christ. I can turn every statement you just made against the left back onto the right and support it with actual current events, versus using click-bait, far-right media sky screamers' opinions as truth. You're a hoot Jon.

Can you point out to me where a democratic-led government is using its power to determine what the public can and can't read? Without using some website that conflates cancel culture,  CRT, 1619, transgenderism, and every other conservative trigger word into a useless jumble of partisan outrage?

No. You can't.

Negative. One thing I really hate about today's GOP being such a raging dumpster fire is that it forces me to vote for and defend Democrats. A more accurate statement would be Democrats= inept, corrupt whiners and Republicans = Anti-American autocrats subservient to Donald Trump. Dems are currently the lesser of two evils, unfortunately.

Wait...wut?  The lesser of two evils?  The American Left is pushing us towards Socialism/Marxism/Communism - basically a totalitarian lefty regime aka "The New Bolsheviks", but the GOP led by a guy with no power is the greater of two evils? GTFO.

Book bans = dumb

Fighting against book bans = good.

I don't care which side of the aisle is doing which in order to tell you I am against #1, but it seems currently the right is hellbent on doing #1.
