DeSantis and his stupid laws

The overwhelming amount of political violence comes from the left.  They normalized it along with the media they so obviously have control over. Nice job Libtards.

But, BLM!!

Yep, I'm sure we couldn't find any examples from the right.

You are right, that is also an angry bunch as well.

Yeah. BLM is a violent group. Agreed. The members are also proven thieves. It's fun watching the Antifatard liberal collective lose their money to those radical crooks.

I think it is important to teach young white children that they and their family are inherently racist.

I actually enjoy teaching and thought about doing it in some capacity in my retirement, but... I don't have a larynx so I'm looking for some inspiration for an area where I can teach without speaking very much.

I read Stephen King in Junior High and High School and while, yes, there is some sex in some of them-it was super tame. Also, they forgot that there’s a hand job in Pet Sematary.  We wouldn’t want young minds scarred by that.

Seriously, do any of these people remember being young?

Me as well.  Could read a bit above my grade level, so I was also reading stuff like that in Middle School.

I don't think it's anything about being young, but most I talk to with this position don't seem to read many novels or not a variety of them.   I think what they don't understand is a few things:  how common the things they list are in book, how little teens think about them when things they challenged are in books, and the reasons why some people read the things they do.   It's very rare it's not a person with the attitude that HT displays on the topic - can't be specific, can't talk about what those scenes might mean in the context of the story or novel, how it often is based on real life events for the author and how people find some comfort or a catharsis in things that other people might not want to read.   None of that matters or is up for discussion.

I can probably out-nerd you. I convinced the librarian to give me an adult library card in either, 2nd or 3rd grade. I’ve always been an avid reader.

I guess I didn’t explain what I meant with that "being young" comment. It’s like they forgot that’s it’s a rite of passage to consume things that are considered outside their age range. Whether that be stealing your dad’s Playboy’s, or watching an R movie, to finding someone to buy beer. Yes, there should be some limits, but we all pushed back at those limits. That’s basically the definition of being a teenager.

Gotcha - that makes sense.

Like you said, there can be reasonable limits put in place.   No, any book that describes a BJ shouldn't be in my daughter's elementary school library.   Now, that same book at my son's HS library?  Then it's a conversation, IMO.

If people want to protect the kids from sexual situations and descriptions, the school library where hardly any kids would be using or checking out books seems to be a really odd place to focus much energy on when we have mobile porn studios in our pockets.

Unless you are a kook and think the school librarians are groomers and pushing their weird ideas on the kids or even dumber believe that a book in a library = "teaching" the kids about this stuff.  Then I can understand the fixation with books in HS and public libraries.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with kids reading more adult themes-and I don’t necessarily mean sexual. I think being more mentally advanced is always a good thing. :dunno:

Also, I can’t help but think that the parents that are screaming the loudest about this stuff-the library is probably the last place you’d find their kids.

Throat cancer -- specifically, squamous cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx.  Laryngectomy 09/20, radiation rest of year, metastasis to lungs anyway, chemo and immunotherapy, been on immuno-only for about 15 months.  I should be dead or dying, but the immuno seems to be working well for me, knock on wood.  I'll never be given a clean bill of health, with current technology anyway; I'll always be one bad scan away from the beginning of the end.

But hey, I feel good, I was financially able to retire, I love my wife and kids and they love me, what more can you want?

I've chronicled my journey here, if you've got a day or two to kill:

Back when I was in school we had a liberal history teacher, and there were these really smart conservative students who loved to challenge him. They would have some very deep discussions during and after class and they all seemed to enjoy it quite a bit.

I’m betting there are kids like this now in Florida: some very bright conservatives who would love to take a class like this and challenge the teacher, argue, etc. But Florida isn’t giving them the chance because the government there doesn’t trust them. They’re basically saying “you’re not smart enough to maintain your core beliefs; a course like this might brainwash you.” If you think about it, it’s really kind of insulting.

Or, Florida doesn't trust that every teacher from the ultra-left educational complex will be like Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society and encourage dissenting views from the woke borg ideology.  That same ideology which you repeatedly tell us is a fait accompli.

Smart people don't need to argue lies. Even smart kids know better.

No reason to have that class in the first place.

But again, you and Craftsman are belittling the students. So what if you get some dumb teacher who refuses to allow dissent? That still doesn’t mean the kids are going to be brainwashed unless you think really poorly of these kids.

You have yet to offer an example of a lie. Smart people DO need to argue over different interpretations of the truth, and that is a more apt description of what this course would entail rather than your blunt dismissive “lies” which you can’t back up.

We are discussing an AP honors course. I would bet you any amount you choose that the students who are eligible to take such a course are pretty stellar in math (and all other subjects).

Oh, so only the smart kids will be allowed to take this class ? Black kids with a C average can’t?

I want to ban it completely. You’re trying ti sell it that only the best students that are up to par on all Subjects will be the ones taking it. I have nothing to explain.

What is your motivation for wanting to get your politically motivated liberal thoughts into the minds of underage kids so badly?

You are freaking creep.

My motivation is I don’t like it when courses get banned. I know you probably won’t believe this, but if this was a conservative honors course that was banned in a liberal state I would have just as big a problem with it. It just rubs me the wrong way when non educators and politicians make decisions like this.

Your crudeness doesn’t strengthen your argument.
Obviously some subjects are not appropriate for high school students. I don’t think African-American studies falls into that category. It is absolutely appropriate.

Go figure that out for yourself. Hint: It hasn't changed for quite a long time.

And while you are at it, ask your biologist friend what a woman is.
