Another mass shooting in CA

Recommended Posts

Looks like a pretty ritzy neighborhood; people shot up in a car and just outside.  Drug deal gone bad?  :dunno:

Gun control laws in one state don’t work very well: if a gun is illegal to possess (such as, for instance, the one used in Monterey Park), the bad guy can simply drive to Nevada and purchase it. And even if, as in many cases, the bad guy is a convicted violent felon, it still doesn’t matter because he can simply go to a gun show in Nevada and no background check is required for a private sale.

This is why those of us who believe in SOME gun control laws want them federalized. So to answer Strikes question, the laws we have in California don’t work very well for us.

Not without a Nevada residence. And one needn't go to a gun show to purchase a weapon privately.

No but that’s where private sales are the most common. Private sales outside of gun shows are usually between people who know each other, so that’s less of a problem. At gun shows, you get sales between total strangers.

But the solution is not taking guns away from law-abiding citizens.

6,000 people were killed by handguns in 2021 and there are 77.5 million handguns in the USA. Do the math.

As usual, the left is trying to fix the outcome and ignore the cause of the problem. If you’re wondering, the cause is not the gun.

Are you law-abiding and a gun owner? If so I think you should be able to own as many guns as you want. Doesn’t bother me at all. I do believe in universal background checks, universal registration, and making some types of firearms illegal to own from this point forward. But I would never support seizing any guns.

January just continues to be a rough month for gun violence in California. :(

Keeping guns away from bad guys is a pipe dream.

No it isn’t. That’s just a lame excuse to oppose any gun restrictions no matter how sensible. Other countries are able to do it. We can’t because one of our political parties is way too influenced by crazy NRA types.

I agree, and would further note this is exactly how leftists defend any intrusion into abortions.

It seems that the virtue of this approach is just fine with that topic.

The idiots clamoring for "sensible gun control" are the same idiots calling for reduced sentences for people being caught with illegally possessed weapons. All in the name of your beloved equity.

Enforce the laws already on the books and fock off with any further infringements of my rights.

WTF are you talking about?

It's clear you have ZERO idea on how and where guns are bought and sold and the requirements for doing so.  You're either making sh#t up as you go along or you're getting your info from dncplantation.com.

Which is it?

This is the same excuse the lefties in Chicago are using.  Blaming it on other states rather than accepting their BS Gun control laws don't work.

This is the problem with the whole gun control debate. You have people who aren't nearly as educated as they think they are on the subject, wanting to make sweeping changes to gun laws that affect those of us who know better. Based on a buIIshit narrative pushed by people who want to abolish the 2nd amendment.

And they wonder why some of us are steadfastly against further, incremental restrictions that will have zero impact on the  illegal use of guns.

Uh… there were over 48,000 gun deaths in 2021. Death by gun is the leading cause of death for children in America. Trying to change the conversation to the subset “handguns” is just utter BS. At least tell me the NRA pays you for this.

Assault weapons ban to start with. It passed in ‘04, and mass shootings go up every year since it expired in 2014.

Liberals want gun control but skip over the fact that we live next door to a narco state and there is little enforcement at that border. Let us know when y’all want to get serious about gun violence.

That's priceless. In 2003, after years of trying, Republicans finally pushed through conceal & carry in Minnesota. Back then I listened to a lot of radio stations in the state. All the left leaning personalities stated the same thing. It's going to be like the Hatfields and McCoys at every restaurant, department store, bowling alley, church, intersection, etc. Never happened. Your side would love nothing more than to point out that NRA members are involved in shootings at a disproportionate rate. They aren't. Excellent. Maybe you can go visit Tyriek in prison. His picture looks like you would want to be best friends with him. Maybe you could pass him a few bucks to help him ease back into prison life. It is a shame the cops had to go and save the guy's life. No offense to your buddy but now he'll be on the taxpayer's dime.

Florida police chief issues warning to criminals after homeowner shoots burglars: 'Most people are armed'

Tyriek Tramaine Washington, 27, was arrested and charged with burglary

A Florida police chief issued a warning to criminals in the state after saving a burglar who was shot by a homeowner.

"One should expect that if you are brazen enough to enter into someone’s residence and it is not yours, with intent to commit an unlawful act, there may be repercussions," Haines City Police Chief Gregory Goreck said in a Friday press conference.

"We live in Florida, and more so, we live in Polk County, and most people are armed," he said.

Goreck was responding to an incident on Friday where a Florida man with a concealed weapon permit arrived home and found two intruders burglarizing his residence.

The homeowner fired his gun and struck one of the suspects before they both fled the scene.

Officers from the Haines City Police Department were able to catch up with the injured suspect at a nearby park using a canine police officer.

"Immediately at that point the officers, even though this was a felon who had been illegally inside someone's house, immediately changed focus and changed gears and went from a search and locate and apprehend to saving this individual's life," Goreck explained.

The injured suspect was identified as 27-year-old Tyriek Tramaine Washington and he was hospitalized with multiple gunshots wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Washington has been charged with burglary and is being held at the Polk County Jail.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and attempting to locate the second suspect.

Police say the homeowner fully complied with police and answered all questions before officers determined he had legally defended his home.

Hilarious. The NRA influences nothing. The reason why politicians side with the NRA is because they are proponents of the 2A. I’ve never attended nor Am I a member of the NRA but I support them while hearted

You two can both be correct as you talk past each other.

Mass shootings could be up, and handguns are the most used.

What usually happens in these discussions is people have a different idea of what "mass shooting" is and again talk past each other.  Usually people are talking the high profile, school/work/concert type shootings and often those are carried out with something other than a handgun.   But if you stick to the definition then you get all the domestic shootings and gang type shootings included (still mass shootings), and then handguns dominate more.

We're talking actual murders with guns.  Let's start with taking out suicide by gun and how many do you have now?  That's just for starters, we'll be able to parry down that list real quick and separate ACTUAL murders with guns instead of your smoke screen, misdirection stat.

You disingenuous POS.

The average human has a mass of about 62 kg, or 62,000 grams. That means the average volume of a human is 62,000 cubic centimeters.
