That's something I've wanted to do more of. I have a couple of buddies who have boats big enough to go offshore. Nothing like a day of pulling in one huge red snapper after another and having that for supper. 

I've done some bass fishing in the lakes around here, but I've never had bass that didn't taste hella fishy.

Currently I am fishing west galveston bay and clear lake, although in the summer time i will surf fish on the beach in Freeport as well.

My current boat is a flats boat with jackplate, etc. It would not be safe to go more than 1-2 miles offshore and even then it would need to be the perfect forecast.

 

The ownership cost of offshore fishing is too high given all of my other hobbies, for example I have a season pass at arapohe basin and am flying there next week for 1 day of skiing. I plan on getting back into offshore fishing but not until my kids are close to graduating highschool. Assuming I can get another promotion or two between now and then.

I've done a bit of fishing in Galveston Bay and in the surf. Lots of redfish and trout. Mighty tasty.

I wouldn't go offshore in anything unless it's the perfect forecast. I've had two nightmarish trips in high seas on those party boats. I don't know why they'd even go out when the seas look like something out of a Coast Guard commercial. 

One of them was out of Port Aransas, and it was a hellish once we got past the jetties. And then a cold front blew through, and things got worse. It was cold and rainy on the deck, but in the cabin it was smoky, with people puking everywhere.

We asked the captain to turn that focker around, and he said it had to be unanimous. There was one doosh holdout, and we told him he could stay and fish, but the boat was going back. He got the message.

I remember being elated when the shore came into view. We got a rain check, and the next time we went out, conditions were perfect.

We went out to the fishing spot, caught the limit in like 30 minutes and then came back. It was almost too easy.

SF has been snakebit for sure.  But Kappy opted out of his contract. In retrospect he should have made them keep him or release him.

I personally have always wanted to see Kappy back in action.  Just to see if he could still play at all.

I don't know what I said earlier in this thread, but I like Tim.  I have said somewhere that he brings a perspective that is pure essence of liberal (not quite leftist) which I enjoy learning about.  He reminds me a bit of torridjoe in that respect. 

Also he'll occasionally take the L, and/or just bow out when he's shown to be wrong.  That's about all you can hope for on a chat board full of people with strong opinions.
