My wife company is headquartered in Gary Indiana.  I'm going to have fun with this at the Company trip to Antigua.

I have yet to witness anything as miserable as Odessa, Texas.

This.

Everything south of Fort Wayne is beautiful.  The only state north of Tennessee I'd actually live in.

Try Superior WI especially in the winter.

Superior is on Lake Superior, while Gary is on Lake Michigan.

The closest body of water to Odessa is Lake Nasworthy, commonly known as Lake Nastywater. It is more than 130 miles away.

I rest my case.

Used to hunt in Hayward(bout 70 miles south of there) and that could be really brutal.  Can only imagine how much worse it would be right off the lake.  :shocking:

Careful, they may have seen the recent article about the dirtiest cities in America.

We are number 1 :first:

....

Although that is because of the east side of town.

Then you add that it is highly industrial with numerous abandoned and shuttered buildings downtown.  It makes Duluth look like NYC.

I've been to downtown Houston many times in recent years, and it's exponentially nicer than it was when I grew up there. Downtown back then was a filthy, bum-infested place, and you wouldn't dare walk around there at night.

Now, you can walk everywhere downtown and not be afraid.

With Odessa, in addition to the sand, run-down buildings and oilfield rednecks, you have plastic bags.

Sometime between when I lived out there in the late 1980s and when I rolled through there about a decade ago while taking my kids on spring break, the bag plague took over the land.

Everywhere you look, there are plastic bags - clinging to shrubs, draped over fences, blowing across highways and attached to rolling tumbleweeds.

I live here. Not far from Ft. Wayne. Not sure I'd call it beautiful unless you like flat land and views of corn fields.

Southern Indiana is beautiful, but you gotta get south of Bloomington.

Gary, Hobart, and South Bend are all hell holes. Chicago run off helped ruin them. Well, Notre Dame did South Bend in. 😁

Directly south of Ft Wayne is bearable. I was mainly talking about south Indianapolis/Bloomington area

Detroit

Highland Park

Ecorse

Flint

Benton Harbor

About 5 years ago we were driving from Chicago to Michigan; we were hungry so we stopped in Gary to grab lunch.  After going a mile or two off the freeway in the direction of the fast food, we got there and... like the video said, empty, quiet, eerie...

Wife:  I've got a bad feeling about this, turn around, let's get out of here.

Me:  Da fuq, I'm starving!

Wife:

Me:  Mkay :(

There wasn't much other food on that stretch so you would think that this place would be thriving, but maybe the zombies were sleeping because it was daytime.  :dunno:

Flint is utterly offensive.  Nuke it.

Indianapolis is a fantastic place.  I’ve seen dang near this whole country while traveling for work and every trip makes me like Indiana more.
