Socialism here we come!

Recommended Posts

Quote

A new federal rule enforced by the Biden administration will make it so that people looking to buy a home with a credit score of 680 or higher will have to pay about $40 per month more than people with worse credit when taking out a home loan of $400,000, the report said.

Cocksucking leaches!

3 threads on the same subject? A $40 increase per month?

FWIW I don’t think it’s a good idea. Certainly not politically, and not functionally either. But it’s not socialism, it’s not a path to socialism, and it seems to me that the reaction is mainly conservatives looking for another reason to hate Biden (not that they haven’t manufactured enough already.)

So there were 2 other threads about this, but you didn't get the response you wanted, so you created a third?

I get that. But there are other issues at play as well: homelessness is terrible. We have to increase affordable housing. We’ve got to pay for it. That’s the reality. This may not be the best way to pay for it but it’s got to be paid for.

How are the homeless going to afford anything? Give them a home and they’ll stop doing drugs and start paying bills? You think they were born homeless?

It might help a small fraction of them.  But it is a rather stupid way to deal with the problem of homelessness.  You have to fix the people first.

Millions of illegals drive up the cost of housing.

Mental illness is the predominant factor.  Build more looney bins. But be nice this time. Don’t hire 3 dollar an hour convicts to work in them.

Sorry, but increasing affordable housing isn't going to help homeless enough for it to matter, IMO.

CA policies keep these people literally ON the streets. They can do their drugs in open air markets, they don't give a shiiite about where they are sleeping, or whatever. You allow housing to get low enough they can buy one, it doesn't matter. They are chasing highs and drugs. Get that off the streets and you might see a better improvement. Otherwise, it's a lost cause, IMO.

And no, I don't think ALL of them do drugs. But the majority, and what you see in the major inner cities (SF, LA, Sacramento...yes). A local city council man in my city actually had a HUGE initiative to clean up some camps along the American/Sacramento Rivers. He commented on the items found there; mostly stolen good and drug paraphernalia. And that's not even inter city stuff.

You are conflating "people experiencing homelessness," which is the poor mother of 3 who just lost her job and is trying to get back on her feet,  with "homeless," which are the drug addicts with mental issues.  Most of the people without a home in the inner cities are the latter, and no amount of free or reduced housing will help them.  A small number are the former, although the MSM wants you to think they are all like that.  I'm open to discussions of how to help the single mother persona, but penalizing people who've earned good credit ratings ain't it.

about a decade ago they started posting signs if you give to homeless you will face a 500$ fine, after about 3 years there were no homeless in the city, and never seen once since.  I am not sure what happens if a homeless is in the area, maybe they move them to the near by city, or give them a warning to move along

They move to Seattle or Portland where they can steal whatever isn't handed to them for free and where drugs are legal.

Well they do go somewhere. Making it illegal doesn’t really do anything except in your area.

Making it policy to allow them to camp wherever they want and not enforcing laws exacerbates the problem and victimizes the law abiding citizens who live in those cities/areas.

I def agree that people shouldn’t be able to camp out long term in residential areas or parks. Parking campers or cars you get a week or so then you have to move.

To people scoffing at $40 a month on a 400k mortgage, so if you live in an area with high home prices, wouldn't it scale?  Where I live in California, you can't buy a port-o-potty for $400k.  So if I need a million dollar mortgage, is it cool that I have to pay an extra $100 a month?  When am I allowed to be uncomfortable that I'm paying more so someone less responsible is paying less?

I don't want people reaching into my pocket for $40 a month or a single penny.  I'm surprised so many people are cool with that.

I guess it makes sense.  That's how people who are bad at money think...  $40 a month doesn't matter, so who cares.  The problem is if you think like that, it's not just $40.  It's $5 here for subscription.  It's $100 a month on overpriced coffee.  It's another $80 for a gym membership you never use.

People who have good credit understand, you need to plug those leaks.  that's why they have good credit.  People with bad credit say, "who cares about $40 a month."

yes it sends them to libtard cities problem solved, I can avoid them.  You want them here, you take them, you want illegals, you want "asylum seekers" you take them, you want refugees, you take them

I want none, my town is amazing

I actually agree with many of the comments made in this thread about the homeless. If there is any issue in which I often take a conservative position it might be that one. Yes many homeless are on drugs. Yes the California laws are too loose. Beyond that I have no specific ideas. As I wrote in the other thread, I oppose solutions that are too authoritarian. There has to be a reasonable middle ground.

Regarding @Strike‘s comment that illegal immigrants drive up the price of housing, that can’t be denied. Illegal or legal, the more immigrants we have make the demand for housing increase. But ultimately the number of immigrants we take in, legally or illegally, is always dependent on the number of jobs available for them. So I don’t mind if demand for housing increases for reasons of immigration, because that means that overall the economy is booming. If you ever see immigration decrease, especially illegal immigration, you will know that we are suffering.

I don’t want my money going for an investigation of Hunter Biden. I wasn’t fond of paying for the war in Iraq either.

I don’t think this is necessarily this issue with the a 40 charge. It is to what end this is being used and if it is a good long term investment - like any levy or fee gets added on.

TBH I haven’t really read this thing but I don’t dismiss it out of hand because it is some government thing so therefore it is stealing or automatically a bad thing.
