Here comes the debt ceiling crisis: June 1

if bush didnt go into iraq, the democrats would have crucified him for being a weak leader.   nothing matters but winning elections to democrats.

I don’t recall Iraq being the target of everyone’s anger. It was Osama and it was thought he was in Pakistan or Afghanistan. They ran out Colin Powell to sell this but Iraq was a daddy issue for W. This is how I remember all this but it has been a minute.

The number one cause of the deficit increase under Trump was the tax cut.

There it is.  Democrats love higher taxes.

Nobody loves higher taxes. I certainly don’t.

But if you cut taxes without cutting spending at the same time, you increase the debt: Surely you realize this?

W sucks in my mind for the whole Iraq thing. I’m plenty critical of the Ds now, but at the time I remember the whole “you break it, you buy it” thing. Us thinking people in Iraq wanted our way of life in a democracy was beyond dumb. It’s a rough neighborhood, it takes a rough person like Saddam or Asaad in Syria to rule. They are better than the alternatives, which are theocracies like Iran or power vacuums like Afghanistan.

Then cut spending. Simple.

Here's the first place I'd cut spending...

The last three major tax cuts (Trump, Reagan, and JFK) resulted in record, revenue the following years.

Right. Also, IIRC he was leveraging 9/11 as a political weapon, the whole “if you aren’t with us, you are against us”. Anyone who questioned his misguided war wasn’t a patriot.

He has since admitted he is not proud of that I believe.

His presidency peaked when he stood on the rubble and gave that speech with the bullhorn and when he through out the first pitch at the Yankee game. Those were great moments for him.

The Chicken Little Thread

But if by some crazy chance this doesn't get done everyone can know that it's because Biden insisted on money for Student Debt and more IRS agents.  Two things the majority of Americans don't want.

And riddle me this, if the new IRS agents aren't even going to pay for themselves by collecting more tax dollars, then why even do it?

If Biden gives on some of his legislation he passed in negotiations should Republicans give in on some revenue increases?

In point of fact, tax cuts do NOT increase revenue.

if they don't get enough taxes to pay for all the garbage they pay for then they should make cuts, not fock the people

but of course as a govt a55kisser you want us funding more wars and donating money to illegals

You’re kind of a negative dude, aren’t you?

1. I don’t want to fund more wars I honestly believe that helping Ukraine will reduce our obligations, not increase them.

2. I do want people to donate to helping illegals. Not the government. If you don’t want to help them I don’t want to force you to do it. I think it’s a good thing but you don’t have to agree.

No surprise if you take issue with these points or anything else I believe but the hostility is unnecessary. It’s not mutual.

Why is it that some of the biggest end up being the people “we choose” to represent us? There are many good people in this country. But I’m sure it’s all a matter of who plays ball with the right people. This is exactly why I hate politics. Can’t see the forest for the trees. (Can’t see the people’s interests because of their own)

Trump wants default.  He wants pain and misery for all Americans.  This is the face of the Republican party.

So the guy from New York who cares deeply about gun deaths in Chicago, what is going on with Disney in Florida, what is going on in Portland, and many other issues everywhere other than New York now decides "Eh, this won't affect me so I don't care."

I guess without Tucker to tell you what to be upset about anymore you are just stranded.

On May 31st, an agreement gets reached where the Republicans get to keep all their tax cuts while the Democrats get all their spending desires met.

Giving this a bump. That's how Vice President Biden and Mitch McConnell avoided the fiscal cliff years back, so expecting more of the same.

I think this or some continuation that buys 6 more months is likely as well.

These people all have their own investments and 401ks as well.

Executive branch should release of a list of priority funding if the ceiling isn't listed and put every GOP program at the bottom of the list.

Why should I care? I give the government my money all the time. It’s not my fault they spend too much. If they need more money they should raise taxes instead of borrowing.  Maybe they don’t need so much?

Cut spending and raise taxes. Both sides get some of what they want.

Not only does Tardcore want the govt to default, he also supports tax hikes.  You taking glee in what is going on here is further proof that you’re an Un-American piece of filth.

I said I didn’t care. That’s not showing glee. I give more than I take and I’m the problem? And yes, I’d rather see a tax hike than more borrowing.  Let’s see if minor in finance guy can figure out why.

The repercussions of a first-ever default on the federal debt would quickly reverberate around the world. Orders for Chinese factories that sell electronics to the United States could dry up. Swiss investors who own U.S. Treasurys would suffer losses. Sri Lankan companies could no longer deploy dollars as an alternative to their own dodgy currency.

“No corner of the global economy will be spared” if the U.S. government defaulted and the crisis weren’t resolved quickly, said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics.

Zandi and two colleagues at Moody’s have concluded that even if the debt limit were breached for no more than week, the U.S. economy would weaken so much, so fast, as to wipe out roughly1.5 million jobs.

We’re $32 trillion in debt and rocketing over $50 trillion inside 10yrs according to CBO. Interest payments alone are 1 trillion a year. We have lowest unemployment rate in 50yrs and tax revenues at all time record and we will still hit $2-3 trillion deficit this year.

THESE PEOPLE SPEND LIKE IDIOTS AND THINGS ONLY GET WORSE FOR THE WORKING/MIDDLE CLASS!!
