Washington governor calls special session to push drug decriminalization law

Gov. Jay Inslee (D-WA) announced he would call for a special session in the Washington state legislature after the chamber failed to pass a bill decriminalizing the possession of fentanyl and other drugs.....“My office and I have been meeting with legislators from all four caucuses, and I am very optimistic about reaching an agreement that can pass both chambers,” Inslee said in a statement.....A temporary law was set shortly after the decision, making small amounts of drug possession a misdemeanor. However, that law will expire this year on July 1, meaning if the legislature fails to pass a bill, Washington will become the second state in the nation, after Oregon, to decriminalize drug possession.

The call for a special session comes after Senate Bill 5536 did not pass in the House on April 23, in a 43-55 vote....Fentanyl, a synthetic opiate that has begun to replace heroin, has been responsible for tens of thousands of overdose deaths in the country. On Wednesday, U.S. News and World Report reported deaths from the drug had nearly quadrupled in five years....Between 2016 and 2021, deaths involving fentanyl rose from 6 per 100,000 people to 22 per 100,000, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.....Special sessions are 30-day periods; however, Inslee’s office said they believe the legislature can process a new law within several days if they can come to an agreement.....

They need to control language. And as usual, they just point out they are homeless, not how they got to be homeless. It’s mostly because they lost their homes, because they are mentally ill.  It’s not because they never had a home, most of the time. They got kicked out of them. Because they are mentally ill. Test scores for 8th-grade students decline in US history and civics following prior declines in math and reading, report says

....Test scores for eighth-grade students in the US declined in both US history and civics in 2022, according to a new report from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, often referred to as “The Nation’s Report Card.”....The announcement of the new lower scores come after the assessment reported last fall scores for American nine-year-olds in reading and math fell by a level not seen in decades.....In history, scores have been consistently declining since 2014. In 2022, the score – on a scale from zero to 500 – decreased by five points compared to 2018 and is approximately nine points lower than it was in 2014, the assessment data show....The declines were seen across various American history themes, including democracy, culture, technology, and the changing role of the US in the world. In 2022, 40% of students scored “below basic” proficiency, an increase of six percentage points since 2018, the data show.....

Don't forget the no chase laws being enacted as we speak.  Seattle police are already down to 880 from 1400 officers pre-pandemic and pre-defund the police.  Now the chief says any officer not trained and without the proper equipment to chase people can't..... well chase people.  That puts it down to about 36 officers, just the swat and k-9 units.  It's pretty much anarchy going forward.

Our schools are an absolute mess, and the test results show it.  Do you know there are still many schools that require kids to wear a mask?  Meanwhile they do nothing about bullying and seem to always treat parents as adversaries.
