Three Years of Death – and Finger-Pointing

More than 1.1 million Americans have died from COVID-19. Some activists want a national memorial day to recognize the lives lost. Others still just want to know how it started...The U.S. reports the highest COVID-19 death toll of any country at over 1.1 million. While deaths have declined as immunity across the population increased, more than 300 Americans are still dying from the coronavirus each day.

Robert Reich Makes 36% More Than Average CEO and Gets $40k for a One-hour Talk Vs. Average Worker Pay of $46k/year

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich is currently a professor of public policy at the University of California-Berkeley and he was paid $242,613 ....Professor Reich is scheduled to teach only one undergraduate class this fall semester – Public Policy 260 – that meets only one day a week (Monday) for two hours (12 – 2 p.m.). That works out to about $2,500 for each hour of lecture time that Professor Reich will spend with UC-Berkeley students this semester, or about the same amount as the average adjunct college professor gets paid for teaching an entire one-semester 15-week class ....

As the Daily Caller reported yesterday, Professor Reich took time off from his hectic one-course, two-hour a week teaching schedule to berate and excoriate American CEOs and Harvard Business School in a post on the Harvard Business Review blog for allowing “a pay gap between CEOs and ordinary workers that’s gone from 20-to-1 fifty years ago to almost 300-to-1 today.”

Elon Musk Twitter Row With Robert Reich Escalates As Tesla Boss Calls Him 'Modern Day Moron'

Tesla boss Elon Musk renewed his Twitter spat with former labor secretary Robert Reich this week, calling him a "modern day moron."The billionaire tech CEO responded after Reich, who is Chancellor's Professor of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, criticized Tesla for making workers take a pay cut during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Musk's net worth soared. "Musk is a modern-day robber baron," Reich said in a post that has attracted more than 24,000 shares and close to 80,000 "likes" on the platform at the time of writing. It caught the attention of Musk, who tweeted back: "All Tesla workers also get stock, so their compensation increased proportionately. You are a modern day moron."

Joe Biden mocked for tweet taking credit for falling gas prices

President Biden was mocked online for touting falling gas prices — although they are still nearly twice as high as when he took office — in a tweet that contained a typo. ”For American families looking for a little more breathing room, these savings matter,” the president said in a post on Monday.....“Peson” is misspelled on President Biden’s graphic highlighting falling gas prices.....President Biden previously blamed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine for skyrocketing gas prices.....“But I thought you had nothing to do with gas prices?” she said on Twitter.

GOP slams Biden for saying there’s ‘no federal solution’ to COVID

Biden, who famously vowed to “shut down the virus” during the 2020 presidential campaign, made the apparent admission during a virtual meeting with the nation’s governors about the pandemic response.....“Look, there is no federal solution,” the president said. “This gets solved at a state level....”

....The Republican National Committee referenced Biden’s campaign promise in a post on Twitter. “Joe Biden claimed he would shut down the virus. Now a year later when he failed to do so, he says there is no federal solution to COVID...Joe Biden is a hypocrite...”

....Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey tweeted Monday that Biden “wants it both ways. He’s demanding governors resolve the pandemic because his administration can’t, yet he continues to push vaccine mandates on businesses with no thought to the consequences.”....Government mandates requiring federal contractors and certain health care workers to be vaccinated have been challenged in court by several states, as has a separate OSHA rule that requires businesses with at least 100 workers to ensure their employees are vaccinated or regularly tested for COVID-19.....

That is an interesting take. I do not share that interpretation.

I surmise one could ffind similar things among conservative politicians if the effort were applied. Though of late it is much easier to find it among liberal politicians.

The lying is part and parcel. They will only hold a position that they find politically useful.  You never really know where they stand or what they truly believe.

What a stupid take. Quite frankly, one of the dumbest takes I've ever seen here.

There is nothing admirable about any of this, the hypocrisy is incredible and obvious. The result is, these folks look like real pieces of shlt, which isn't exactly breaking news.

Ted Lieu’s Stanford Donations Likely Legal but May Raise Ethical Questions, Campaign Finance Expert Says

California Congressman Ted Lieu is facing questions about at least $50,000 in campaign donations he made in 2017 and 2018 to Stanford University, where his son is now a student. According to Federal Election Commission records, Lieu has made at least two $25,000 donations from his campaign funds to Stanford, one in September 2017 and another the following June.....One of Lieu’s two sons is now a student in the Stanford class of 2025, according to a social media profile and a student profile page on the university’s website. That’s leading some to question whether Lieu made the contributions to benefit his children, and whether the contributions may have violated campaign finance laws that prohibit candidates from personally benefitting from charitable donations....

....“He might have well known, thought, intended that this would help grease the skids for junior down the road, if junior decides he wants to go to Stanford......”

Lieu’s campaign raised just shy of $1.8 million during the 2017-18 campaign cycle, and had operating expenditures of just over $700,000, according to FEC records....The two $25,000 donations to Stanford were among Lieu’s biggest expenditures during that election cycle....In 2019, Stanford was one of the prominent universities caught up in “Operation Varsity Blues,” a $25 million criminal conspiracy to influence undergraduate admissions....

NY Times writer Wajahat Ali makes eyebrow-raising claim about 'many' White GOP voters

New York Times contributing opinion writer Wajahat Ali raised eyebrows on Sunday with a shocking claim about "many white Republican voters."..."I hope people realize that there are many white Republican voters in this country if they're given a choice between renting a room in their house to a person of color or burning down the house, they will elect to burn down the entire neighborhood. It's not just a small fringe..... Hence the 2016 election labeled as the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or die....It's going to be a long, ugly, violent death rattle of a death cult....."

Ali, a former CNN contributor, was slammed on social media. ...."You are a deeply unserious human being," Ben Shapiro told Ali.

Activist student charged in attempted shooting of Kentucky mayoral candidate

....A 21-year-old civil rights activist and political hopeful has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to shoot a mayoral candidate in Kentucky.....Quintez Brown, a University of Louisville student and former columnist for the Courier Journal, was accused of walking into the Louisville office of Craig Greenberg on Monday and opening fire....allegedly fired several bullets from a 9mm Glock handgun toward Greenberg at his campaign office....

....The suspect, a Black Lives Matter supporter who recently announced he would run for the Metro Council in District 5, was arrested shortly after the shooting carrying a loaded magazine in his pocket...He also was carrying a bag containing a handgun, gun case and additional magazines, the police report said.....Brown, who has been active with Black Lives Matter Louisville, demonstrated in downtown Louisville in June 2020 to express his frustrations with how blacks have been policed in the US....On Tuesday morning, Brown appeared in court on charges of attempted murder and four counts of wanton endangerment.... Four other people were in the office at the time of the shooting.....

Mandela Barnes says 'check is in the mail' to pay delinquent property taxes

.....Barnes took issue with recent news coverage in a series of tweets, suggesting stories about an increase in security costs, unpaid parking tickets and delinquent property taxes were unfair.....Barnes owes the city at least $2,225 in property taxes, interest and penalties on his Milwaukee condo, according to city officials....."I haven't seen him so I haven't (talked to him) but if he owes money, he owes money and he should pay it," Evers told reporters at the Wisconsin State Capitol.

Barnes told the Journal Sentinel he is paying the taxes in installments, and provided the newspaper a copy of his 2018 tax bill, which lists how much to pay in each installment. ....But Jesicca Zwaga of the city treasurer's office said Barnes' taxes are considered delinquent because he failed to make the first payment in the installment agreement by Jan. 31.

.....This is open socialism, and Barnes openly supports it. That’s why during his run for lieutenant governor in 2018, Wisconsin’s Working Families Party gave $27,652 to his campaign. Much like the New York Working Families Party’s issues years earlier, this violated campaign finance laws, which cap donations from political action committees at $26,000.....Barnes agreed to pay a $1,652 fine, but still rather hypocritically railed against the influence of so-called dark money in politics....."There’s a very corrupting influence of money in politics, and we’ve seen that for a long time," he said during a candidate forum in the summer of 2018. "We wouldn’t be where we are in Wisconsin if it were not for the corrupting influence of money.”

Barnes has also railed against so-called “election deniers” like his opponent in the upcoming Senate race, Ron Johnson, but when he gave the national Working Families Party response to the 2019 State of the Union Address, he lavished praise on Georgia’s Stacey Abrams, who had just given the Democratic Party’s response.....Abrams lost the Georgia governor’s race that November, but refused to accept the results, saying that her opponent, Secretary of State Brian Kemp, had effectively rigged the election by suppressing the vote of blacks and Hispanics. Barnes echoed this sentiment in his speech.....“Stacey, you are an inspiration to us here in Wisconsin, and an inspiration to the entire country,” he said. “We’re so proud to say you were born here in the state. The Working Families Party was an early, enthusiastic support of Stacey’s run for Governor and I believe that if not for deliberate attempts at voter suppressions, she would be Governor today.

One in 10 US households struggles to afford enough food, study finds

....families still account for almost half of the country’s food-insecure households, with 2.3m unable to afford adequate nutritional food..... according to the annual food insecurity report by the USDA.....In most circumstances, adults went without to ensure the children were adequately fed, but for....extremely poor households there was not enough food for anyone. In the richest country in the world, children in 274,000 American households went hungry, skipped meals or did not eat for entire days because there was not enough money to buy food.....Inadequate nutrition can affect children’s growth and physical development, as well as their ability to thrive, play and learn.....

.....The latest USDA findings come as the US teeters on the brink of recession, with the cost of food soaring due to double-digit inflation. .... the cost of groceries in July was up 13.1% compared to last year, with the price of cereal, bread and dairy products rising even higher, according to the Consumer Price Index....Every month, millions of Americans are forced to choose between paying for rent, healthcare, bills, childcare and groceries, because they are not paid a living wage. One in four Americans rely on federal nutrition assistance such as food stamps and free school lunches. The rates are higher among Indigenous, Black and Latino households....

‘My body, my choice’? Only for abortion as the left pushes vaccine mandates

....On Monday, lame duck Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that “Omicron is here, and it looks very transmissible.” So de Blasio, ignoring scientific evidence that COVID-19 vaccines will not stop the variant from spreading, decreed all private-sector workers, in businesses of all sizes, must be vaccinated by Dec. 27. ...The mandate also applies to children as young as 5..... They’ll need a jab to participate in school activities such as band and sports and to be taken to a restaurant, movie theater....A mayor who professes to defend bodily autonomy is doing the opposite, forcing everyone to take the shots, regardless of personal qualms. This is the same de Blasio who warned at a recent Brooklyn pro-choice rally that “you cannot have your government attempt to take away your right to control your body. It cannot happen in America.”

....If Americans capitulate, how many times will they be forced to bare their arms and take whatever an ambitious politician requires? I am pro-vaccine, and I’ve had three jabs. But it has to be voluntary.

OP-ED The Democratic Party is often violent, divisive and hypocritical; if it doesn’t change, Trump will be back | COMMENTARY

....Democrats ask why millions of Americans repudiated their party in favor of repugnant and divisive Donald Trump. Could the answer be an equally divisive Democratic Party? Columnist Jonah Goldberg makes the point that, “alternating between parties that want to unify a vast and diverse country under ‘one best way’ is a recipe for perpetual strife.” The Democratic Party would do well to listen.... progressive reform requires broad support, but the path to that end is not through the left’s shortsighted alienation of moderate and conservative voters.

Democrats must stop: Claiming the moral imperative. Historically, one side defining good for its own purposes and assigning evil to the opposition has led to social violence. The inflexible “right makes might” of Dems minimizes opportunity for compromise.

Ignoring the Constitution. When Trump won, leftists rampaged the streets, randomly destroying innocent citizens’ property. Democrats began impeachment immediately. They touted eliminating the Electoral College and packing the Supreme Court and Senate. If leftists resort to violence whenever unhappy with electoral results, and if the Democratic Party alters timeworn American institutions to guarantee its own political supremacy, citizens who respect peace and democracy will resist.

Being divisive, elitist, and hypocritical. The right didn’t elect Donald Trump, the left did. Hillary Clinton called millions of voters “deplorables.” Democrats everywhere cheered her statement. Conservatives were callously called Trumpies. Some were intimidated in the workplace, even fired. Moderates perceive such leftist tactics as threatening, humiliating, and arrogant toward those with differing viewpoints, leaving them resentful of the party and its agenda.

Being partisan in the press. Did CNN dedicate the same coverage to the Obama administration’s treatment of families at the Mexican border that it did to the Trump administration for the same behaviors? The scope of challenges to questionable policies shouldn’t be determined by political party. Many don’t seek the news for political preferences of editors and columnists. We desire nonpartisan analysis of events. Single perspective news outlets limit the perspective of citizens and foster intolerant outlooks.

Lumping conservatives in with supremacist right-wingers. As some Dems have suggested, is anyone who supports Donald Trump a racist? Are Black people who support him traitors? Are women who voted for him insensitive to rape and sexism? If Republican voters can be generically demonized, then so much for the freedom of citizens to decide which party they favor. Can one not detest Donald Trump, but fear the liberal agenda more? Generalizing racist and other discriminatory intent over political preferences only decreases the opportunity for collaboration.

Importing voters. Humane treatment at the border and making refugee homelands less violent must happen. Can America economically or culturally sustain millions of impoverished immigrants? The Democratic Party’s failure to sponsor reasonable immigration reform fuels perceptions that the left wants uncontrolled immigration to offset the loss of voters disillusioned with its agenda. Americans fear how much factions in the Democratic Party might change America.

Democrats must begin: Policing your own ranks. Cease throwing diversionary blame at the other side. Accept partial responsibility for the divisiveness in the country. Admit the failures of urban Democratic administrations to meaningfully elevate the impoverished in their cities. Acknowledge corruption in Democratic-led cities.

.....Donald Trump will soon be gone. If the Democrats are smart, he will not return in four years. With their excuse for gridlock-governing erased, the Democratic Party should appeal to the broad base of Americans. Restricting opinions the party will entertain won’t accomplish that. Moderate, invitational dialogue might. Preachings and practices attributed to the Democrats by the right may be apocryphal. Liberal behaviors must serve to dispatch those perceptions in moderates, not reinforce them! Millions did not vote Democratic, despite a severe distaste for Donald Trump, because the Democratic Party’s public behavior has too frequently been violent, divisive, hypocritical and threatening.

Adams says Texas governor targeting ‘Black-run’ cities with migrant busing plan

.....NEW YORK — Mayor Eric Adams rebuked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday after learning that the border state would resume busing asylum-seekers to New York and other major cities run by Black mayors.....“Not only is this behavior morally bankrupt and devoid of any concern for the well-being of asylum seekers, but it is also impossible to ignore the fact that Abbott is now targeting five cities run by Black mayors.....Put plainly, Abbott is using this crisis to hurt Black-run cities.”

.....More than 57,000 migrants, mostly hailing from Latin America, have arrived in the city since last spring..... City Hall projects it will cost New York more than $2.9 billion over the next year to provide the migrants with housing, food and other services.....Adams’ rhetoric about the situation has become increasingly heated..... he said the city “is being destroyed.”

Mayor Eric Adams Sends Bus of Migrants to New York City Suburb

.....New York City Mayor Eric Adams sent a bus of migrants to a suburb north of the city to deal with the impacts of illegal immigration.....The new strategy is part of Adam’s plan to house 61,000 illegal immigrants who have claimed asylum and are living in his city. Some counties have taken legal steps to prevent Adams from busing the migrants into their towns.....An estimated 40 to 60 male migrants seeking asylum in the United States were bused to Newburg, about 70 miles north of New York City. The Orange County town has approximately 10,000 residents. They will be housed at the Crossroads Hotel, which was initially decorated with posters with the word “welcome” printed in multiple languages....

.....“We’ve had some very heated conversations between the mayor and myself,” said Newhaus while speaking to Politico on May 11. “Nothing nasty, but I said, ‘Look it, this can be a real security problem if you bring these folks up here and we have zero information.’.....Rockland County Executive Ed Day compared the plan to “throwing people out to the middle of the ocean who can’t swim and saying ‘go to shore.'”....Lawler said he was “vehemently opposed to this plan which would shift the cost for housing, food and health care for folks who may be here illegally onto Rockland County and our municipalities.”

.....On May 9, state Supreme Court Judge Christie D’Alessio issued a temporary restraining order preventing the LLCs that own the Armoni Inn & Suites in Rockland County from becoming a shelter for migrants (sent) to the county from New York City. The Adams administration moved forward with its plan to house illegal immigrants in other municipalities outside of New York City......“This is a renegade operation on the part of the mayor, and I cannot even begin to believe what’s going on at this point,” Rockland County Executive Ed Day told the media on May 10. “I have never seen such bullying and arrogance in my entire career.”

******

Eric Adams promised he was going to make the lives of working class New Yorkers better. And he said he'd "do it the right way" So he defies an actual restraining order from the NY state Supreme Court and sends illegal immigrants via bus to dump his political problems onto others, right after criticizing Texas Governor Greg Abbott for doing the EXACT SAME THING to him. Adams calls the behavior "morally bankrupt" and says it's racist. So it's not morally bankrupt when Adams does it himself to others? And it's not racist when he dumps illegal immigrants into mostly white towns and neighborhoods?

Oahu teacher arrested for distributing child porn

An Oahu school teacher is behind bars accused of distributing child pornography in incidents going back to 2019....According to the criminal complaint document, 34-year-old Alden Bunag committed the alleged crimes from November 2019 through at least October 2021....

... Investigators say the two exchanged nearly 3,400 messages and hundreds of images and video files over the course of about seven months....A further search of the Philadelphia teacher’s cellphone uncovered three videos showing an adult man and a minor boy engaged in sex acts, six non-pornographic photos showing Bunag’s students....In some chats Bunag even claimed that he had sex with the teen boy at school during lunch breaks....

.....During a voluntary interview, investigators say Bunag admitted that he had been having sex with a 13-year-old boy who was one of his former students, that he knew the boy was a minor, and that he used camera equipment to record the encounter. He also told investigators that he sent the video to the Philadelphia teacher and others using the messaging app Telegram....
