RLLD 4,230 Posted August 23, 2023 What is 'skiplagging' and why do the airlines hate when you do it? Quote It works like this: Say a passenger wants to travel from New York to Charlotte, N.C., but the nonstop route is pricey. So instead, they book a cheaper flight that takes them from New York to Denver, with a layover in Charlotte. Rather than fly all the way to Denver, they simply get off in North Carolina and ditch the rest of the ticket.

Strike 5,536 Posted August 23, 2023 Yeah but be careful. It is technically against airline policies and they can and will revoke your ticket if they think you're doing it

JustinCharge 2,397 Posted August 23, 2023 I doubt airlines even care. They operate as a bank that fly planes as a hobby.

If you do it on your outbound flight, there’s a good chance the rest of your trip will be automatically canceled. But as long as you’re not doing it often, you should be okay to do it on your return trip. However I believe the airlines can tell if it’s been booked via the website mentioned in the article, so always book direct with the airline.
BunnysBastatrds 2,436 Posted August 23, 2023 Brilliant and and screw them. It also works out for them. I haven’t been on a flight In ten years that hasn’t been full. There’s always a few customers on standby hoping to get that flight because the powers that be overboard. You might get rewards for doing it like hotel rooms. or vouchers for future travel. Tricky but can be done.

Tricky but can be done. I’m on like 2/3 full flights all the time. The problem with your theory is the cheap flights where people do this are usually ending at small cities that not a lot of people go to, hence the lower price, so good chance those flights won’t be full if people skip the leg. Don’t get me wrong airlines are horrible, but this practice doesn’t help them.
