The overwhelming majority of those people paid a great deal of their money to make the journey to our shores, often times at considerable risk of life, for the chance of being allowed to become American citizens. And, as such, they strived to assimilate to our way of life because it was better than what they left. 

Why should we allow people, who happen to be within walking distance, or, as is more prevalent today, to be transported to within walking distance, to walk across our border, with little to no marketable skills, no vetting and no desire to assimilate to our customs or even learn our language?
