Do you have a problem with this current trade?

Only with the timing. A Marine should have been free a long time ago...

They should be part of the swap. Send em to Leningrad. We’ll cut you a deal, Vlad.

You can see how goofy society has become in many ways.  This is one.  Marine?  Who cares?  Lebo basketball girl for the merchant of death?  Sign us up!

Our ancestors are rolling in their graves.  All the World War vets are shaking their head.

Involves several countries. Supposed to include Gershkovich and Whelan. May also include a Russian assassin being held in Germany. Even so I really hope it’s true. Apparently we’ll know in a few hours.

trump at work already.  Oh it’s going to be a tough four years, but at least pedero Joe will be gone, thank you Jesus.

The journalist and the marine are released as part of this. I’m sure this is horrible somehow.

What's horrible is that these two were there longer than they had to be.  Amazing that a basketball player was a higher priority for this administration.  I find that to be rather disgusting that a soldier had to wait 18 months longer than pot smoker.  If the trade off for Griner was an arms dealer, what's the exchange for these two?  If it's way less than The Merchant of Death, then one would have to ask "Why did it take so long to bring these two back if the price was cheaper?"  If these two are worth more than Bout, what are we giving up?  Nuclear war heads?

From the Twitters:

Holy cow, this is some serious diplomacy by the Biden admin. Besides Gershkovich and Whelan, 22 other prisoners have been released across seven different countries, and they got Putin to release Ilya Yashin and Vladimir Kara-Murza - two prominent opposition leaders against him.

The Insider (ie @christogrozev) has the full list of today’s exchanged prisoners: https://theins.ru/en/news/273542

It really is interesting how people blindly believe our people are innocent and that other people are bad. I don't know enough either way. None of us do. I just find it interesting it's always our people are good people and the others are merchants of deaths.

They weren’t working to get these two released?

Considering they never said they were, I'm going to say no.  They made it known that they were working on bringing Griner back.  Why not say the same for the others if they were working on them as well?

It’s just what happened. Not sure what to tell you.

My suggestion is that you join fellow Americans celebrating that these people get to come home.

Well, you could try the whole story, but why would you do that.

Who said I wasn't happy they're coming home?  I'm just calling the administration a bunch of pieces of trash for prioritizing a pot head over them and thinking that a mass murderer was a fair price.  Curious to see what we gave up here.

This is not accurate. They have been working on this for some time. Talking about it publicly for years for both these guys. Trump’s team as well in the case of Whelan.

They didn’t do this. You can read about how the negotiations went down.

Ok, I'll take your word for it.  Trump felt that Viktor Bout was too high of a price to pay for Whelan.  Apparently the communist party felt that to get Griner back, Bout was acceptable.  So, if the Russians got Bout for Griner (which was too high of a cost for Whelan), how much did we pay to get Whelan back?

We will see. When Griner was released they were also trying to do Whelan and they negotiation broke down so we took what we could get.

German Chancellor Shultz: “I will do this for you, Joe Biden.” The implication being that he would not have done it for Trump. Trump has gone out of his way to alienate Germany and the rest of our NATO allies.

Did the Ukraine sign off on this?  Because apparently Vlad got a whole bunch of his operatives back.

It’s also being suggested that Putin agreed to this deal now because he was annoyed that Trump bragged that only he, Trump, could get these folks released and that he would do it without any trades. Putin does not like being told what to do.

This was a very complicated deal involving several countries and sophisticated diplomacy. Per reporting, both Biden and Kamala were heavily involved and Biden relied on his personal relationships established over decades.

Is it unreasonable for me to assume that Trump could not have gotten this deal accomplished?
